Political impacts of Ukraine war

So if the US gets out, is Europe going to take up the slack to support Ukraine to indefinitely fight a war at a level that ensures it can never actually win it?

Alternatively: how much was the US holding back, whether overtly or through promising one thing or another and then dragging their feet, other countries' support?

Illegal if true - as Congressional bills have that in it.
How much sway does Trump have over congress? I know the GOP have a majority right now, but a lot of them are not hardcore Trump fans. They might tie support to Ukraine for the easy passage of other bills?

A few have come out against him, but several have come out in private and said that the Musk/MAGA faction has threatened them physically as well as financial with ruin if they vote against him.

Sit down and take a breath, you will be ok.

The US will remain the leader of the free world. They are not paying everyone’s bill anymore. A free ride always ends at some point.
Yeah, Ukraine is one of those nations who are getting a free ride, especially after they invaded Russia.

Ah. I took that post at face value. That there's a "best case" scenario of a higher tech and more rapid degredation Iran/F14 situation is... something, I guess.
Nothing wrong with taking it at face value. I didn’t code it, but it has been known to be done in other cases, so the F-35 absolutely makes sense to be thusly equipped.

I threw the conjecture qualifier in there since I did not do any programming myself in the first person. 👍🏼

Yup!

When Manifest Destiny hits a brick wall, it’s time to move on…

I'm of two minds- is it absurd for Canada, Czechia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Poland, Romania to NOT cancel their orders and reallocate to Rafale and Typhoon if the next few weeks play out as they look to, or is considering it an overreaction?

No need to cancel our F-35 order...Musk hates the F-35 and knows that uncrewed is the way to go. He'll cancel the order for us!

I’m with you on ordering Rafale or Typhoons, although possibly ordering only enough F-35s to satisfy our NORAD commitment. Having said that, I’m not even sure if we should stay in NORAD. So it could end up being either a complete or a partial order of European fighters.

I was of two minds earlier, but one of those minds has atrophied.

America has jumped the shark.

Time for Canada and the rest of the democratic world to move on…

Plan B?

Up until a couple of days ago, I thought it was dumb to ditch our F35 commitment.

Now I’m not sure. Almost feels like we’re ordering MiGs from Moscow. 🙁

That was me as well, about a week and a half ago. The last week and so has really been quite something to watch unfold. I’ve been working at NATO SHAPE and some of its subordinate commands for the last two weeks, there is more than just a buzz in the air about the new direction America (and Russia) is taking. The dark humor going around the water. Coolers has moved focus from talk about Hungary or Turki being removed from NATO, to seeing whether some new organization, particularly based around Europe, expands beyond the historical Eurocorps concepts. After Vance’s speech in Munich and SECDEF in Brussels (and later Stuttgart), the initial shock has worn off, and people really are blinking and muting that America is effectively and behaviorally, breaking from NATO and pairing with the head of the old Warsaw Pact.
