Political impacts of Ukraine war

Well the idiot in charge of the Pentagon and Elon Musk have spouted it...

SO much for Make American Great Again -- it is more like MAKE RUSSIA GREAT.
Musk is the acting president, Trump is merely the head of state. Maga etc have been successful in its state capture effort dating back 20 years or so.

It's looking like Canada, and europe have two options, fold and sacrifice Ukraine, or channel our inner Churchil/Thatcher, stand up and say there will be no appeasement to dictators, draw the line in the sand, deploy troops and let the world know there are things still left to fight for.
Kiss goodbye to that possible Abrams tank purchase you were all salivating over and the Brits may be able to resurrect the Challenger

Or just do nothing.... the safest bet ;)

Zelenskyy has committed what is, to Trump, the ultimate sin: he told Trump ‘No’. Now we will witness the most powerful man in the world apply that power to a tantrum.
You got that exactly correct.

You can add, IMHO, that Zelenskyy gets more world positive news coverage, more often, thus hurts Trump's ego that he, Trump, is not the man of the moment.
Spotlight not on Trump as his ego demands.

Meanwhile, in Canada, as the rest of the world appears to be taking the security situation seriously, Trudeau adds another couple of thousand Public Service jobs to deal with military procurement.:D

It's likely abject paranoia on my part, but in the digital age I do question putting all our eggs in the basket of an increasingly... temperamental ally who we may or not be in geopolitical alignment with at any given time. How long does our military operate if the US withholds contractor support as part of a trade spat/ if we want to use our military for a cause they don't support?

Ok, not so much paranoia. The trade spat is happening, and it's getting clearer by the day that checking Russian aggression is no longer a cause that the executive branch of the US supports. How long do Dutch/Norwegian/British F35's stay in the air if Trump doesn't want them to?

Technically, an Executive Order could direct DoD to implement the God-code, thus grounding the fleet.
Makes sense for Europe to have their own fighter programs.
Might create a bit of a push for
FCAS-France/Germany/Spain
GCAP-UK/Italy/Japan
In the meantime they might want to check on their Eurofighters/Rafales and see if they need a few more

Strikes me that a lot of industries in Europe are being given a chance to re-build: everything from planes to widgets and a lot of industries in the U.S. are going to lose some very profitable contracts. dumb move Trump
