Political impacts of Ukraine war

Well Denmark seems to have taken notes.

Just put the country in WAR mode.

Now the government is peeing its pants to keep warm – again

The government is frantically trying to increase the pace and patch up the gaps in the Danish Armed Forces. However, it still cannot agree on a permanent solution.

Expert: Here is the reason why rearmament of the Danish Armed Forces takes a long time

Over the next two years, Denmark will spend 50 billion DKK on upgrading its defense. "Speed" is a key word, emphasized Mette Frederiksen at a press conference. But an upgrade will take a long time, warns an expert.

On Wednesday, the government, led by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S), presented a new fund of DKK 50 billion, which will finance the upgrading of the Danish defense over the next two years.

It must happen quickly, the Prime Minister emphasized.

But it may prove difficult, says Mikkel Vedby Rasmussen, a professor at the University of Copenhagen who researches defense and security policy.

Mette Frederiksen responds to Donald Trump's attack on Zelenskyj

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen responds to Donald Trump's statement that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is "a dictator"

Mette Frederiksen does not understand President Trump's attack on President Zelenskyj:

"Zelenskyj is a democratically elected and otherwise unusually capable political leader in Europe, who for almost three years has done something that I don't think anyone else could do: stood up not only for his own country and put his own life at risk, but every single day also fought for Europe's peace, freedom and security and thus also for the Americans," she tells DR.

Several European leaders respond to Trump's attack on Zelenskyy

Mette Frederiksen is not the only European leader to defend Zelenskyj after Donald Trump called him "a dictator."

German Chancellor Olof Scholz also responds to Trump's comment:

"It is simply wrong and dangerous to deny President Zelensky his democratic legitimacy," he tells the German media outlet Spiegel.

Kemi Badenoch, chair of the UK's Conservative Party, also responds, writing on X that Zelensky is a "democratically elected leader of Ukraine who bravely stood up to Putin's illegal invasion," adding, "we will always stand with Ukraine.

Oh boy... that Trump post is bad. But it's not the end of the world.
Comforting - you should translate that into Ukrainian and send it to the UKR embassy.

Meanwhile, Babylon Bee's satirists didn't take long ...

Oh FFS.

Are you still in? Have you moved down there yet?

What it is is the United States' end as "Leaders of the Free World."

Full stop.

Sit down and take a breath, you will be ok.

The US will remain the leader of the free world. They are not paying everyone’s bill anymore. A free ride always ends at some point.

We worked with the Danish on various NATO exercises, in Denmark.

At that time, my over riding impression was that they were a military heavily dependent on conscripts, reservists and home guard troops.

Maybe you should ask all the conscripts what they think of ongoing war?

The irrational bleating in this thread is over the top. If all you’re going to do is speculate on mean tweets and sensational headlines, you’re in for a rough term.

All true. You say that like its a bad thing.

The Danes were the other country aside from Canada with tanks in Afghanistan, just as a historical note. They were with the Brits in neighbouring Helmand.

Well, actually...

FDR did require the UK to turn over a few of their overseas possessions in exchange for a few clapped out destroyers, thus taking advantage of the dire straits the Germans had put the UK into with their U-Boat fleet ...

Actually no land was turned over, just basing rights given.
