Political impacts of Ukraine war

'Global Leader' is not on America's to do list, and hasn't been for quite some time....

Trump’s view of the world is becoming clear: America’s allies come second to its own interests

What became startlingly clear at the Munich Security Conference was Trump’s new vision of transactional alliances with America’s traditional partners.

In his view, the United States is not so much retreating into isolationism as much as it’s acting as a great power with its own economic interests at heart. Trump is eager for the US to assert its place in a world where spheres of influence matter as much – if not more – than any particular set of rules.

Trump is too myopic to recognize that America’s allies are a key aspect of its interests. Their soft power is a profound multiplier on their hard power.

America’s raw strength isn’t just all its domestic bases and its CVNs. Its strength comes in part from things like Five Eyes SIGINT sharing, NORAD, foreign basing privileges granted by friendly countries, Most Favoured Nation trading status…You can only accomplish so much within the walls of your own fortress.

America has just ceded great strategic advantage to Russia, and in signalling its sudden profound weakness in strategic engagement, to China as well. It’s telling other countries that the U.S. is an unreliable security partner… How many will look for another partner or partners to dance with? As other countries wean themselves off such a high degree of reliance on the U.S., America will suddenly find many of its levers unexpectedly shortened.

The first couple months of the Trump administration could not have gone better for Putin and Xi.

This all reminds me of one of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite shows:

FIFY,

Also Trump Popularity is falling at JT levels

Well, we now know who's names have been added to the lists and are up for a knock on the door in the middle of the night to be led away quietly while their neighbours pretend to know nothing.
Let’s be clear: this scenario has moved from laughably remote, to somewhere between possible and probable.

Well not shocked on OMFV (though it is currently called MICV), no idea what is being smoked on AMPV, as it is needed for the ABCT's as the M113's have been retired.
No shock on the Stryker Brigade divestments as they generally sucked in Ukraine - about the only Western piece of kit that didn't meet the muster (admittedly those only had RWS with M2 and Mk19, no Cannon versions supplied), and they are too heavy to do their original intended purpose.
PIM is very disappointing as that is major requirement for the M109's
I am shocked on the NG ABCT reduction - as well as the NG SF Group (there are only 2 and they are busy - or were...)

No shock on FLRAA though Bell will be furious that the 280 won't fly.
No shock on NGSW as that program has failed so badly it is a bad joke.

The Navy cuts are criminal and I am just sickened by the USAF cuts as well as the DOD wide cuts.

its almost like we are inviting Russia and china to invade, if these cuts go through the US would likely not be in a good position to counter a war on multiple fronts.

Meanwhile, the Coast Guard.... ;)
