Agreed it should be unnecessary. The games being played right now, while comprehensible to me, are also procedurally outside of what I really know about.i dont see how it couldnt be? Although I guess it depends on the wording but what would be the point if the opposition didnt nail down the wording? Seems an unlikely series of events that should also be unnecessary.
What I would personally like to see, in the interest of Canada as a whole, and in the interest of not straining our constitutional conventions, would be for PMJT to call an immediate election, frames as ensuring that the government of the day 37 days hence has a mandate govern Canada through turbulent waters. I would want to see him stay at the helm of the LPC in the interest of getting this done ASAP, notwithstanding that the result of that is obviously foregone.
That won’t happen. Failing that, I want to see the quickest possible vote on a confidence motion as soon as Parliament resumes. No procedural dodges to delay or avoid it, no prorogue for a four month LPC leadership campaign. Let Canadians elect a legislature from the options on the menu right now, so that a government with a fresh mandate can be formed soonest.
In normal circumstances I wouldn’t be sometimes of an abrupt process, but with the political and economic threats we’re facing from the south, these are not normal times.
