Looks like LA is favored to beat New York. It will be exciting to watch.

Sort of. In a way.

The Dodgers - Yankees rivalry is one of the biggest in MLB. Beginning in NYC when the Dodgers played in Brooklyn, and the Yankees in the Bronx. I had the good fortune to be introduced to Mrs. Babe Ruth by my uncle at Yankee Stadium, as a young boy.

And who can forget "Mr. October" and his dash through the onfield crowd of fans in the 1977 Dodgers vs Yankees World Series in New York.

1977 was quite a summer in NYC. "Son of Sam" and "The Blackout".

It was also the summer Howard Cosell reportedly said to Reggie Jackson during a World Series game at Yankee Statium, "Ladies and gentlemen, the Bronx is burning." It really was.

Unlike political opinions, MLB statistics speak for themselves.

Even decades later when "Who was the greatest player / team" discussions come up.

Ted Williams ( the last MLB player to bat .400 ), in my opinion, was likely the great hitter who ever lived.

The MLB is the only US and Canadian professional sport that doesn't have a salary cap -- so large market teams can buy their way to skilled players in ways that the smaller markets cannot -- as such it creates the ability to "Super Team" by simply having a huge budget -- which isn't to way to have an enjoyable sporting competition IMHO.

Babe Ruth put it this way when asked whether he thought he deserved to earn $80,000 a year, while the president had a $75,000 salary, "I had a better year than he did."

You're eligible to vote in their elections. I'm not.

So, I'll get more of a kick watching Shohei Ohtani ( LA ) earn his keep than reading arguments over the definition of a political "buffoon".

Whatever their salaries, fair or unfair, only the best teams make it to the World Series.

From what I read on here, that's not necessarily the case in politics.

Nothing new about Dodgers vs Yankees. 1947, 1949, 1952, 1953, 1955, 1956 and 1963. Twice in the 1970s and once in the 1980s.

I think you will be surprised how high a small market like Toronto is. Toronto is the 7th highest spending team.

Exactly what super team exists there ? I went back 10 years and only 1 team has won the WS twice. And the top 5 spenders only have WS wins three times with nil for the top 2.

I enjoyed watching the peaceful, joyful celebration in Japan.

It was a different story in Los Angeles.
