The War in Ukraine

total aid in euros not counting European union contribution. Doesnt matter which way you slice it Spain, Italy and France are at the bottom

Maybe another way to phrase this then is why have Poland, the Baltics and the Nordics given/risked so much more than the US.

Silly question. (1) 1st hand USSR 1.0 memories (2) short term myopic US party politics (3) the Atlantic ocean.

They have pre-made fortifications, it's just that, the Russian Army is overruning them. They started at Avdiivka. The lines they occupy in the Donbass have been developed since 2014.

Bahkmut, Marinka and Avdiivka have all been overrun. The Russians are also bombing faster than the new lines can be built.

Go on Google maps and actually zoom in on Avdiika to see the extent of the Defensive Works that were built by the Ukrainian Army. They were, to say, impressive.
The Blogger was stating that the reason they held for so long was the pre made ones, but with clear evidence the Russians are advancing, no efforts are being made to prepare new lines using equipment outside of the reach of FPV drones.

Not necessarily a passage of lines out, more a "65th Conscript Relief Battalion is going to Adiivka Kursk" situation.

Any hindrance the Ukrainians can put on the Russian ability to reinforce their front lines is diverting strength from the assault in eastern Donbass.
So would the hypothetical 65th be accompanied by, or be falling in on, all the kit, specialist subunits, vehicles, and whatnot for, say, a truck-borne motor rifle unit, or is it more of a Ivan and what he can carry, times 500, on civilian transport?

That would be nice, but I am not sure if Ukraine has the troops and equipment to do that and Kursk. My guess is once the Russians hit the built up areas, they glide bomb any of the fortified areas and keep pushing.

The Poles have long memories. Katyn Forest - that and the USSR did SFA to help Poland. Then the USSR boot torques them til 1990 or so.

In the last two days Russia has had to move more units to Kursk. As the Ukrainians still have the upper hand in most areas of Kursk.

One aspect jumped out at me, ever time the Russians push into Ukraine, the West makes additional equipment available. Ukraine may find that it is better off holding Kursk and threatening the surrounding Russian areas, than sending more troops for defensive depth the Donbas.
I still think the Ukrainians have another card to play. I feel that they are playing for time, pulling the Russians in deeper and are going to strike hard in another spot and create chaos for the Russians elsewhere and then they’ll be forced to address not one but two major issues.
