LPC leadership race - 2025

My understanding is to vote for a Liberal leadership candidate is that you must have lived in Canada for the last 183 days. Has Carney?

Given he was doing economic advisement during and after covid before coming onto the liberal economic Council, I'd say it's a good bet

Anybody watching the LPC leadership candidate debate Francais tonight?

Four non-francophones vying to be the next leader of a bilingual country, in public and on TV, under lot of pressure?

Robert Downey Jr Yes GIF

I watched it.

If I were to rate their French in order:

Baylis, Gould, Freeland and Carney.

They clearly weren’t out to attack each other and did a good job of staying disciplined in that regard.

Focus seemed to be on how to tackle the Trump issue.

No one messed up. Baylis impressed me with some of his policy ideas.

If I were to pick any winners i would say Baylis and Gould because they probably managed to raise their profiles a bit.

From what I read it wasn't intense and not very competitive.

Because they've all been selected and conditioned to be 'Yes Men/Women' by the Trudeau machine, which wants no leaders apart from the 'Supreme Leader'.

None of them are national leadership material IMHO and they'd likely be crushed in contact with real politicians like Trump, or even our own provincial Premiers.

As Patton once said "When everyone thinks alike, no one is thinking."

Carney mistakenly says 'we agree with Hamas' in French Liberal leadership debate

Luckily Freeland jumped in and rescued him.

Otherwise it sounds like the "debate" was a four-way circle jerk.
It pretty much was and to be honest I prefer when parties do that for their contests rather than try and destroy each other causing damage for nothing. Policy debate rather than attacks.

That being said, the mistake Carney made highlights his lack of command of the French language. He’s actually not terrible about you can tell that he had some prepared stuff and struggled to expand on his ideas.

Would you consider them contestants though?

Gould openly talked shit about the Liberal Party in her vote for me emails to party members. She's since toned down and it's as if everyone is reading off the same page. Kind of like they're trying to give the impression of choice for the next party leader.

I can see a slip up on wording speaking French but Carney completely flipped his positiin on using emergency powers when speaking in Quebec. THAT didn't seem very accidental.

I was reserving judgement for why they removed Ruby Dhalla and now I am convinced. They wanted her out of the way.

I suspect this sham is going to actually hurt the LPC in the near term more than they realize.

I have friends (of Sikh and Hindu descent) from back in Brampton from where I used to live, the 3 I spoke to said although they were never Liberal supporters (ex-CAF members) they have plenty of friends who are now not supporting the LPC and no matter what the party says, they see it as a racist, white Laurentian elites only club.

Piss poor optics on their part.

They clearly are experiencing Mark Carney differently than the rest of Liberal Canada…

So you're saying they're doing a bit better than the CAF then? ;)

You realize he wants to use Canadian tax payers money to rebuild Gaza? Terrible idea. I don't know if he brought it up last night (I only caught the highlights)
