LPC leadership race - 2025

A good article.

The problem is it undermines everything the LPC and NDP stand for. Therefore, neither of those two parties are the right people to lead this path forward. If this country doesn't course correct in a dramatic way fast to unite economically, then it is only a matter of time before it fractures and good riddance.

Your opinion is no less or more valid than anyone else's. It is definitely louder and more strident, but neither of those two qualities enhance the validity or supremacy of your opinion in any way.
Sure. Whatever. I ask for people to explain why the support LPC or won't support CPC, and I list key political issues...and silence.

Where did I ever state that my opinion is more valid than anyone else?

I am an asshole, I said it before and I will say it again.

I ask again
Before anymore of you Anything but Conservative crowd pipe up, I challenge you to address these issues and who is best suited for it
-Economy
-Trade
-Security
-Defence
-Housing
-Natural Resources
-Justice
-Law Enforcement
-Foreign Interference (Government and Election)
One of you put up a little statistic about when Harper was in charge (and Pierre was a junior cabinet minister), and it was cost of living. It didn't make any argument that I could see.

Amusing that we tolerate people not yet elected to Parliament receiving privileged information but join the rest of the world in losing its collective nut when it happens in the US.

The overwhelming majority of people with security clearances and receiving privileged briefings aren’t in any sort of elected office. What you raise is a non-issue.

Without knowing what, precisely, you’re referring to in the U.S., a meaningful comparison cannot be made.

I was going to post over in the CPC thread in response to some of the comments about Carney, but realized this is the more appropriate place. On this forum, reading the comments of both ardent CPC supporters, and those who lean towards the LPC, one gets the impression that Mark Carney is the de facto winner of the Leadership race. Comments fly back and forth about MC vs PP and who will do what to the country if they win the next election.

What I haven't seen much of is, what happens if someone else wins the LPC leadership race? Not knowing who the actual voters for the LPC leader will be at the convention, I'm not sure what that outcome will look like. But if I put myself in the shoes of the stereotypical left leaning Liberal voter, who am I actually likely to vote for as my new leader? Is it the older white guy who everyone says comes from the same stock as the current PM, with the same supporters and advisors, or am I going to vote for a left leaning female who is trying to set themselves up as someone at odds with the former PM, and has a portfolio of work to show how they made life better for Liberal voters?

Its not like leadership races in the recent past have seen the front runner always come out on top right?
I'm just one person- but if I were voting in the LPC leadership I'd be doing so with October top of mind, and my primary concern with a Freeland win would be that the CPC response to the prospect of Carney (to try and connect him to Trudeau and the past few years of LPC performance) is orders of magnitude more legitimate and easy to make stick.

If anyone told me two years ago that in 2025 the Liberals were committed to reaching 2% of GDP on defence and the Conservatives were refusing to commit... I would not have believed them.
I thought that PP had already done so with his announcement regarding 2 ice breakers for the navy and a permanent base in Inuvik.

Pretty sure his last comment on 2% was non committal.

CPC are getting desperate with their attack ads. They think posting pictures of "normal guy" Mark Carney wearing $2000 while pretending to play hockey is going to dissuade LPC voters. Get real.
What i love about that is we literally had Pierre post the other day of him going to door to door talking to canadians but wearing a $2000 canada goose jacket

We have Canada Goose parkas and bibbed overalls in the CAF.

Canada's first remote WFH PM?
Not exactly WFH, but not the first PM without a seat going into the job - this from Wikipedia:
... William Lyon Mackenzie King, after losing his seat in the 1925 federal election and again in the 1945 Canadian federal election (despite his party being elected government both times), briefly governed without a seat in the House of Commons on both occasions before winning a by-election a few weeks later. Similarly, John Turner replaced Pierre Trudeau as leader of the Liberal Party in 1984 and subsequently was appointed prime minister while not holding a seat in the House of Commons; Turner won a riding in the next election but the Liberal Party was swept from power ...
