Canada/US Border Integrity Thread

I just want to be clear here. Sure its not going to the USA. Trump is wrong.

We still need to be a good nation and work to shut that shit down no matter where its going.

The issue is the distribution of fentanyl.
Yep. We don’t need to beef up the border as much. We need to beef up the sea ports and postal system for fentanyl precursors and the airports for dodgy characters.

Yeah, CBSA is chronically short staffed and Trump isn't helping. Mail and courier screening is like like catching speeders.... or fish.

But you've gotta love the new RCMP Border Patrol video!!!
The RCMP. Protects. Canada's. Borders. Oof; that's gotta hurt.

Way off-topic, but one problem is the lack of a level playing field. Online retailers like Amazon claim no responsibility for the products they sell. They view themselves as simply a platform or facilitator.

CBSA has helicopters! Well, at least according to Trudeau.

In case anybody is wondering how un-serious we are about Border Integrity:

I am in Surrey Detachment. I have applied 4 times to Border Integrity, and been denied for one reason or another. (usually the fact they don't want me to leave the contract policing side of the RCMP)

I worked in a patrol zone that included the border for 4 of my 8 years, but in a contract detachment. I have become very, very good at chasing border runners both people who try and run and people wait for us and immediately claim refugee status (which creates a huge headache of its own, and I'd much rather chase the runners)

After all the BS from RCMP management about placing Surrey members where they want to go to retain them, after all the focus on Border Integrity in politics in the last couple months, with all the time and effort I've expended becoming good at dealing with Border issues of all kinds, staffing has no intention of placing me there despite the fact my Detachment will probably be dead in the next 2-5 years.

So anyways, if you're hoping we'll start sending members to the border to deal with the massive issues there, you're wrong. Catch me on General Duty in another Lower Mainland Detachment so the taxpayer can save a couple bucks.

So shitty asset management, not sending members who are competent at border issues to the border - leaving members feeling underutilized & working non-priority issues, which feeds into low morale, which feeds into a retainment issue/crisis - all while the RCMP struggles with a recruiting challenge...

(I didn't use the word crisis in there, but should I have? Is recruiting/retainment still facing the same challenges as a few years ago?)

This may sound like a silly question, but I'd love to hear the answer straight from the horse's mouth...what are the massive issues at the border??

(We all have a general idea of things, but most of what I hear comes from the media & different agencies I follow on Instagram. I'd love to hear the perspective from someone who actually has worked the issues on the border)

Our Prime Minister has a developed a bad habit of not reading briefing docs or listening to the briefer, if a subject doesn't catch his interest.
I sometimes wonder how he managed to get through High School much less University.
I say it's sad not only because he thinks CBSA has helicopters, but also because he seems to think CBSA actually patrols the border...

The CBSA and RCMP put out a joint Flag Day video highlighting border security here. It seems full integration is the way ahead and the Liberal government is shaping the social media battlespace in that regard.

This sounds more like a contract policing vs federal policing issue, exacerbated by the managed collapse of Surrey Detachment. A lot of Mounties are going to the border, but they’re going from other positions within federal policing. That’s a deliberate effect of the split between contract and federal; they aren’t supposed to eat each others’ lunch or solve each others’ problems anymore. Border integrity is getting lots of bodies, but they’re aren’t coming from municipal detachments.

Now don’t get me wrong, on an individual level it sounds like they’ve shit the bed in how they individually employ you, but that’s pretty par for the course.

Without getting too far into it, and with the disclaimer of I worked only a very small, but busy slice of the border;

The Americans lie to a lot of the people who cross their borders about how we will provide a job and a car and welfare etc. They are shocked and disappointed when they're arrested on arrival instead.

All of them have already made a claim in the US, so the ones we catch get punted back by CBSA.

If FSOC Border Integrity isn't working, it falls to the patrol members of the Police of Jurisdiction to catch them.

There're more I could say but it could be easily picked off by human traffickers who look for this exact kind of intel open source.

The list goes on. I'm angry because my career is at a standstill and the RCMP refuses to deal truthfully with me or entertain the career path I want despite me having the KSAs they want. They want to put me back on GD in some Lower Mainland Detachment as they're all screaming for bodies, but nobody in management is willing to actually think about why nobody in the force wants to be on GD anymore. I am once again looking at employment outside of law enforcement, dependent on what I'm given out of Surrey.

I feel for you my dude! The problem with being useful at your job is your interests and goals may not align with the needs of your service/employer.

I've dealt with similar issues in both the public/private sectors. Only thing you can do is keep marketing yourself... or go to another force 😉

You can't seriously think that a liberal controlled LE department is going to do the lawful thing, using capable people, to carry out their mandate, do you?
But we got some dudes LARPing "Day of the Soldado" now on the border at the behest of Uncle Sam!!

That has to be a PR pic. No way are those guys flying like that in this weather, dressed like that. Prolly, only 15 ft off the ground.
