CAN-USA 2025 Tariff Strife (split from various pol threads)

Sorry, “no credentials and no business experience”? Is Diane Francis just really stupid?
I'm desperately hoping the whole "let's just try and gaslight the nation re: Mark Carney" is a reflex action to buy time to put the pieces in place for a grown up, policy driven campaign- because the playbook for the last month has been transparent and pretty damn sad.

Also, he hasn't been beaten with the ugly stick, but Ivanka isn't going to be thristing over him.

Mark Carney may be a lot of things, but being a pretty boy that doesn't understand business isn't one of them.

His stance on Canadian energy and net zero, along with all the major players pulling out of his net zero plan, says he has an agenda that is not conducive to promoting Canadian industrial or economic growth.

Good new for border security in the Cornwall, ON area. The Blue Anchor Bar and Grill re-opens on February 12!

Yeah OK!!! oops.....misread that Again....I'll just leave now.....

My bigger concern is that he doesn't understand democracy. He wants to drive the bus. Letting the passengers decide where the bus is going is over radical for him.

Or alternately, he's seeing a lot of growth potential in green industry, and thinks that's somewhere that government investment to encourage growth makes sense, as opposed to continuing to subsidize the very profitable O&G industry (that is still needed).

Different objectives is very different than having no business understanding (like Trump and tarriffs or trade deficits), even if you don't like his opinion.

It doesn't matter about Carney's experience.

He'll do what he's told and will follow the direction of those that pulled trudeau's strings.

Same marionette, different puppet.

He's an Internationalist.
He's friends with Christine Lagarde from France.
Look at the recent news out of France over this weekend and Brookfield's announcement today directly related to it.
Ask yourself, how will France secure all this new electricity that will be required. Then look to see what is their current main source for producing electricity.
Now look here? What is Ontario's main growth source of electricity and think what has been announced in Ontario over the last number of weeks.
That is what they seem to think is the main source of power/electricity in the future. And we, Canada, is sitting pretty.

Vs the opposite corner of the CPC trying to revive dead projects like energy east that the companies who originally proposed them don't wanna revive. We really have no good options, come election time my votes going to who offers a way forward that isn't stuck in the past.

Plan B?

Maybe she wants to save all the looting for herself ;)

Maybe somebody doesn't like her?

Hopefully the people that wrote the contracts for F35s locked in the unit prices; LM will probably get polite 'FUs' from countries subject to tarriffs if they try and bump their prices up because of increase in prices of raw materials (from import tariffs).

25% on steel and aluminum is going to hurt.

Two things.

1. This is probably the worst time for an investigation. With an election coming, trade talks and her scheme to cut the feds out of taxing and taking Alberta's oil money.

2. This smells exactly as if the democrats were trying to keep Trump from the WH and false allegations of sex, treason, wife beating, drugs and alcohol being used against Trump’s cabinet picks. I don't think I've ever seen so many negative red and orange liberal comments on a NP article. They probably all broke out in hives when their computer opened the web site.

Being the guy that has a dark look on everything and not a good single thing to say about liberals, I would bet dollars to donuts the federal liberals are behind a smear campaign and get her out of the way to steal the oil revenues again a la PET.

There's plenty of time to investigate this when we can stop and breathe again.

Not as much as them not having our nickel, aluminum and titanium to build all those 35's.
