US support for homeless vets

There was  segment on 60 minutes that described "Stand down", a  US program to help  homeless vets combat life on the streets. Here are a link:  http://www.vvsd.net/standdown.htm

The program that sponsors it is the Veterans Village of San Diego.  http://www.vvsd.net/index.htm

Is there a need for a program like this in Canada, does it exist and if so, where can I  donate?
