Trump administration 2024-2028

Our family doctor is from New York state...

My family doctor is from Nigeria. He's a prince of a fellow.

I remember a doctor from New York we enrolled back in the 1980s. He seemed to be well qualified until it was discovered during his security clearance that his license to practice had been revoked on two separate occasions in two separate states.

I see what you did. Are you wealthy now?

At least seven resignations from that office over this now.

The investigation and prosecution of Mayor Adams is lawful and based on evidence. The administration is looking for a moral midget to close the loop on their quid pro quo with him. Even Trump’s own very recently appointed district attorney resigned over this.

That letter though… Goddamn. With a decorated U.S. Army Special Forces career and a degree from Harvard Law, this guy knows he’s not beholden to someone else’s slimy politics for gainful employment.

Just to close this item off:

If you have the chicken you have to feed it, care for it, house it, make sure it is healthy and protect it. Then you have to collect the eggs, prepare, package, ship and sell.

There’s “taking care of” as a new state, then there’s “taking care of” as a Puerto Rico Northeast - which can vary broadly between jurisdictions. The old South African regime would say they were “taking care” of blacks, too - YMMV.

Getting the sack worked to Macchiavelli's advantage, just sayin' ;)

A Point of View: Why getting the sack was good for Machiavelli

Machiavelli may have bemoaned his fall from favour in 16th Century Florence, but his enforced departure from politics led to the creation of his great work, The Prince, says Sarah Dunant.

He is a singularly impressive civil servant.

His first job came in '98 after a major change of government. He was still in his twenties and obviously knew some of the right people, but it was also a meritocratic appointment - right from the start he showed an acuity and passion for politics.

The early years of the century were dangerous ones in international politics and his views, though rooted in first-hand experience, were not always listened to by those making the decisions. Looking back, history would prove him right.

But his greatest test by far, was yet to come. In November '12 (1512 that is), Niccolo Machiavelli, having served the Florentine state faithfully for 14 years, fell victim to regime change when the republican government disintegrated in the face of an external coup to reinstate the Medici family.

Yesterday's men became today's enemies. Machiavelli didn't even get time to clear his desk. He was shut out of government and at the beginning of 1513 his name was found on a piece of paper along with others, some of whom were conspirators in an attempted counter-coup.

Arrested, imprisoned and tortured, he spent weeks languishing in what he called a "dainty hospice" with the stench of a charnel house and lice as big as butterflies, listening to the screams around him.

Fate - always a powerful consideration in his political firmament - came to his aid. In Rome, a Medici cardinal was elected Pope and as Florence went mad with joy, he and a number of others were released.

Cutting the resiliency training entirely just seems like it'll set people up to fail once they're out. All the other stuff I leave for those here with far more knowledge to judge, but overall these changes don't come off as very positive (to me).

A small snippet:

Resiliency training, which taught soldiers and commanders coping mechanisms for stress and adversity — whether it was how families can handle the stress of deployments or how soldiers can maintain healthy relationships — was completely removed from the Army’s training and leadership development regulation.
Commanders will now decide whether the following training courses are necessary for their units:
  • Individual and unit chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear (CBRN) training.
  • Combat Lifesaver Training and certification, a 40-hour course with both hands-on and academic classes that teach the basics of battlefield first aid. The course includes training on action under fire; tourniquet use; bleeding control methods for gunshot wounds, explosions or other trauma; airway management; wound care; splinting; and emergency evacuation procedures.
  • Safety and occupational health training which includes basic risk management, traffic safety for drivers under 26 and blast overpressure for traumatic brain injury mitigation.
  • Law of war training for operational units, which covers rules of engagement and prohibited behavior for soldiers facing combat and how to handle detainee operations.
  • Code of conduct training, which provides an ethical and moral guide for soldiers who are captured during war.
  • Online training courses on Personnel Recovery and Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) which covers avoiding capture, resisting enemy influence if captured, and escape.
