Problem in China is that the reversal did not lead into a major up spurt in babies. People feel they can't afford having 2 or more children. The relaxation of birth restrictions, caused a bump in birth rates, but there is still a steady decline.

Their position is unchanged, they have said they would agree ti the ceasefire only if their own conditions of met, one of which is ukraine recognizing the occupied territory as russian. Which has been their demand the entire war to keep what they took which is a non starter.

Also yesterday President Trump let the Biden Energy Sanction Exemption expire, so no Russia gas can be transferred with SWIFT banks.
I guess that is step 1 in his response to Putin refusing the ceasefire.
