Hello just curious as a reservist would it be possible to temporarily transfer to a base. For example next summer I have family business in Barrie would it be possible to transfer to Borden for a week ? Is this somthing that's done?

No, you would not have to do any kind of transfer if you will only be gone for a week. Also in the summer the Reserves stand down, so unless you are on course or tasking you can go and do whatever you want.

If you were going to be out of area/province for a few months, than you would want to see about being attached to another unit or going on Exempt Drill & Training(ED&T).

Check out the reserve employment opportunities site, there are thousands of jobs available all over Canada.

As for 'working' on a base. That is something you need to discuss with your CoC and your Ops. There are tasking, courses, etc that are usually always available. Plus Borden is a very busy place so it is possible there might be a GD position for something or a short term course running.

Though if all you want is to have a job while you visit family...would you really be visiting? If you are on a temp Class B, be prepared to have early morning timings, and long long days, also be prepared to be in the field for the duration of your time there.

In short, no, the military will not employ you while you visit your family unless it is for an extended period of time or your main priority is employment and there is coincidentally an opening for a position that suits your trade/rank/qualification where you want to go.
