Does anyone know how the pay scale works with regards to spec pay and receiving normal pay.  when I OT I will keep my Sgts pay.  At the same time ill will also be receiving spec 1 Pay as soon as start my new MOC.  How is its determined what spec pay level I will start at? Will it start at the same level or baracket as the Sgts pay?

I would imagine it would start at whatever level (Sgt - Basic, Sgt - 1, Sgt - 2, etc) you are at now.

There's some missing information here.  If you're doing a compulsory OT, you will indeed keep your current rate of pay, if that is at the Sgt level.  If you're doing a voluntary OT, then you'll be going to Cpl IPC4 pay rate.

In either case, you'll be at the Basic pay rate for the trade, until such time as you become QL5 qualified (and possibly other requirements based on the trade) before you move to the Spec pay column.

Itll be under the AVOTP program.  Wouldnt QL5 qualified be equal  a qualified Sgt once the OT is completed?

I'm not sure I understand.

If, for example, you're Infantry, and you're remustering to ATIS Tech, you would revert in rank to Cpl, drop to Cpl Basic IPC4 pay rate until such time as you pass POET, QL3 and QL5 training in the new trade before you would move to Cpl Spec 1 IPC4.

The rules changed several years ago WRT spec pay.  You cannot draw Spec pay until such time as you are qualifed in your new trade.  If you don't have the skills necessary for the new trade, you don't get Spec pay.

And when did QL5 qualify a member as a Sergeant?  Thats news to me...

Makes sense now Occam Thank You.  Greymatters I have probally mis-worded what I was typing.  I wasn't trying to say that QL5 qualified Cpl qualifies  a member as a Sgt.  I was trying to ask or figure out if a qualified Sgt was equal to a QL5 qualified Cpl.  I don't know much about the airforce side of things..I was under the  impression that a QL5 qualified Cpl was a Cpl with leadership training.  But Mr Occam explained it well.

Usually - QL5 course = QL5A.  QL5 course + leadership course (PLQ) = QL5B - regardless of rank.

Yes he did.

Muddy water.

Cpl + QL3 = A/L Cpl
Cpl + QL5A = Cpl with QL5A
Cpl + PLQ or JLC (QL5B) = Lucky Cpl with QL5A

MCpl + QL5A = A/L MCpl
MCpl + PLQ or JLC (QL5B) = MCpl with QL5B

Gotta remember, the terms QL5A and QL5B are payroll references.  Cpl with QL5 A or B is a Cpl with QL5.

Cheers!

In regards to the pay scale and the Cpl Basic IPC4 pay rate, will it be in the 5A column or the 5B column?

5A.

5B is Master Corporal.

edit: (I changed column to row because that's the way all the tables I've seen are laid out that way)

It depends.  If one is confused and is turning the table around or looking at it with their head tilted and a questioning look on their face, it would still be a column.    ;D

Many tables I've been looking at lately should be viewed with a head tilt and questioning look on the face.  Head scratching is optional, but highly encouraged.  ;D

lol...now ..after reading this I am confused ...or more learned..not sure..lol

I switched to reg - and was ..assessed as a Cpl + PLQ (QL5B) = Lucky Cpl with QL5A.

My pay is really decent...but I need trades training in this trade...hmm...where ought I be on the pay scale ...

Im switching back over as Officer as soon as possible..and will..according to what I understand..maintain my salary ..

Let me put it another way:

If you are a Substantive Cpl (one who has attained QL5 status in their new trade and is not acting lacking), then and only then can you move from the Standard to the Specialist pay groups.

In the past, there were techs (doesn't matter which kind) who were late getting their QL5 courses due to service reasons.  In light of this, they were being moved to Cpl Spec 1 immediately upon promotion to A/L Cpl.  This was deemed to be unfair for various reasons, and has not been permitted for several years now.

Good Day all, I would like some clarification on Spec Pay as I am Confused, and I am on an Army base where Spec pay isnt dealt with alot Im sure.  When I Ot'd from my old trade my pay dropped to Cpl Basic IPC4 as expected.  Now I am QL5 qualified and Spec for myself will start right away.  However it dropped in IPC to Level 1 spec 1, I just need some clarifcation on this as I thought it would be at  Cpl Spec 1 IPC4. Thanks to anyone who can be of some assistance and have a great day :)

I don't have access to the DIN right this second but if you go to the Pay Rates, down at the bottom is the info on spec pay.

But, the short version is spec pay is based on your TI in your 'current MOSID', with the time spent in the "Jr" MOSID counting toward your Spec IPC once you are 5s qual'd (ref for that is CANFORGEN 142/09, para 1(e)).

Part of a voluntary OT is relinquishing pay and rank and unfortunately that means mbrs who were a higher Spec or IPC have to 'start over again'.  I believe that is part of CFA0 11-12 as well.  However, you should have kept your EPZ and Seniority dates (**Rank History** on your MPRR).

The GOOD news is you are getting spec pay again.  8)

* if you were a compulsory OT (Medical) I believe the regs on that involve the vested right to pay, but am not 100% so won't guess.

Thank you Eye In The Sky, It makes sense now. My first time getting spec pay and it does feel good.  Thanks for the clarification.
