As a fellow infanteers, the important thing to read are podcast/narrated novel title. Rarely more than 10 words. The day is done after that, I'm burned! When you say you read the Hunt For Red October, you mean the subtitles ?
I read them all (most multiple times, some more than others) Red Storm Rising and Without Remorse are peak Clancy in my opinion.I tease. I haven't read that one but Red Storm Rising is one of the books I always take to sea/deployment.
Clancy’s books went downhill once Ryan became President.I read them all (most multiple times, some more than others) Red Storm Rising and Without Remorse are peak Clancy in my opinion.
I disagree, Executive Orders and Bear & the Dragon are right up there for me, probably battling Clear and Present Danger for tops in the Ryan focused books. After that though... I couldn't name a single title.Clancy’s books went downhill once Ryan became President.
Most books after that are ghost written or co-authored.I disagree, Executive Orders and Bear & the Dragon are right up there for me, probably battling Clear and Present Danger for tops in the Ryan focused books. After that though... I couldn't name a single title.
I bought the first one - great primer for submarine warfare. If you’re interested in nuc boat stuff, try this one:
Submarine - Tom Clancy
Only the author of The Hunt for Red October could capture the reality of life aboard a nuclear submarine.tomclancy.com
A bit older of course, but pretty decent actually. It also touches on the RN nuc program pre-Astute class (very good boats, from my limited experience flying on them on Ex and working with them non-ex).
This one is okay as well. The scenario isn’t far fetched as it might have been back then…

My favourite Clancy books; Red Storm Rising and Cardinal of the Kremlin.
I played some video games too after I read the books - turns out at least in the game the tactics work.I played Dangerous Water some and tried 688(I) and Sub Command…then…”upgraded”.

Adding: Clancy said that USN SSN Captains are very good but the best were the Brits - it seems even Americans dreaded them, and lets not forget our own Oberon Class sub commanders who apparently were very good as well.
Hoist the fucking Jolly Roger mate!!!It was interesting how the USN and RN trained and selected Skippers at least back then.
There is a 4 part series of a Perisher course on YouTube you might enjoy if you’ve never seen it before:
Yes Captain Ramius - if I may call you "Marko"?If I were king for a day, I’d deactivate the safeties on my torpedoes so they couldn’t turn into my attack before my torps armed.
