LPC leadership race - 2025

Attached is a warning signs of fascism list. The current US government is hitting 11 or so out of 14. That's cause for worry.

Something I remember reading iabout that in a book.

Do you think we will ever have Fascism in America? ' Said the Kingfish: 'Sure, only we'll call it anti-Fascism'".

Look at all the people (real and….you know, AI-generated) supporting King Carney - impressive crowds!

Edit to add: This is a close up of the “cell phone of the woman in front at 6:00” showing nobody behind Carney, just two big TVs on the back wall….as opposed to the throng of mutant AI clapping seals in the main X photo immediately below…

Most of his supporters that come to his speaking events look to be 60+. Just old retired rich Liberals who want to keep the government social programs going and aren't affected by taxes.

No you don’t; you’re just being passive aggressive.
I was giving you a way out. The US isn't 1930s Germany. How often is it necessary to repeatedly point out that the critical institutions of society were not and are not behind Trump in a way that is going to lead to any kind of unified executive control of the military, legislature, courts, media and entertainment, academia, lower levels of government, etc? Furthermore, the path to any kind of authoritarianism is not aligned with measures to reduce the scope of government and be more permissive with freedom of expression. That Trump has the habits of an ignorant common bully doesn't make him much of an authoritarian, much less an authoritarian mastermind moving towards some point on a political graph labeled "fascism".

Authoritarianism always appeals to a surprising number of people as long as it also tries to speak to them. Demagogues know this. They know to make sure there’s a solid base of people who won’t fear the authority being used against them, and who are conditioned and taught to villify the others against whom it will be used.
That also describes recent Democratic politics. Now they are experiencing the "used against them" phase. Exhibit A: USDS.
There’s always a core group of people who, thus treated, will tolerate pretty much anything as long as it’s brought in incrementally.
Which they did.

Should we suppose anyone is going to heed the example and pursue the classical liberalism vector more closely in Canada? Which party and people is that likely to be?

I’m surprised that NDP voters are flocking to Carney. I figured they wouldn’t hold central bankers in high regard, compared to a progressive dilettante playboy.

NDP voters seem lost.

Their leader has utterly sold them out, and has gutted the party of the very substance that attracted those voters in the first place.

But they won't allow themselves to see or accept that maybe their socialist utopia is expensive to the point of bankruptcy, that unions can very much be a bad thing in some cases, or that limiting government spending may actually be a good thing...

So since they can't find much common ground with Conservatives, and since their own party is a hollowed out shell that's only purpose has been to keep the LPC in power long enough that the NDP party leader can collect his pension, they are flocking to the next most familiar thing to them...Carney.

(It's funny that they voted for Singh because they didn't like what Trudeau had to offer, yet are flocking to his replacement which offers far more of what they didn't like in the first place...)

And latest 338 aggregate.

First time the CPC is below 200 projected seats in a while.

LPC chewing away at both the NDP and CPC.

This is without an actual leader. The real tell will be when they land on one.
They already have, they just haven't officially announced it yet.

It's Carney.

(The reality is the LPC is completely compromised by the WEF. It doesn't matter if it's Trudeau, or Freeland, or Carney, or Gould - they are all admitted and proud WEF members, with Carney & Freeland even sitting on their boards)

We've seen snippets of Carney's 'town halls'.

Have we seen anything from Freeland or Gould other than their initial announcements they would run?

Have they announced yet how people are going to vote in the leadership election?

Haven’t heard

@Halifax Tar is an LPC member. Maybe he knows.

Weird I didn't get notification of this tag.

Anyways, I haven't heard yet either. I may have deleted the email in error though.

But I googled it and got this:

I'm assuming it's not released yet.

I do feel like it's a ranked ballot.

It does look like preferential voting.

ould be a dumb move to not leverage the fact Harper wanted him to be finance minster
Lots of credible sources calling BS that Harper ever offered him the job.

May 13, 2013 there is (I believe a Globe and Mail, I have to confirm who printed the article) article discussing the growing tension between PM Harper and outgoing BoC governor Mark Carney

Yea I've been trying to find something and I can't anything. In fact, when I start at the LPC webpage, I can't even find a way to navigate to the leadership election section. The only way for me to get there is to google it.

What sources? I have yet to see anyone credible call BS and the only one who can actually say it's BS is Harper himself and he is quiet.

Dimitri Soudas came out and said something to the effect that that wasn’t the whole story and that Harper certainly does not support Carney’s bid. Harper has had no comment to date.

I doubt Harper would, him supporting a LPC candidate would cause a lot of internal chaos for the CPC
