LPC leadership race - 2025

In a perfect world the LPC leadership would be up for grabs. But I think what's going on now is a smoke and mirrors show until they can anoint Carney.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if the chosen one was upset by Ruby or Freeland, or whoever.

I think I read the LPC started out with 100K members and shot up to 400K. That should be somewhat concerning for the LPC.
Would be funny if it was a lot of new LPC members that aren't part of the Liberal establishment and they elect someone other than Carney (like Gould).

I'm sure after the interference investigation and their previous allegations against some of their own candidates in byelections they are making sure all the new voters are Canadians or PRs though, right?

We're on the same page.

Yes, I think they really did, and to be fair he openly kneecapped his cabinet and ignored his caucus repeatedly.
which is why 40+ liberals aren't seeking re-election including a lot of cabinet ministers, Carney is going to have a cleaner slate and fresh faces if he forms a future government

Ever not had your ID checked when voting? I haven't

i still find it a little hard to believe. Did everyone just hate Trudeau that much and assign no blame to the caucus/cabinet?
The conservative have made their entire identity for last 9 year as anti Trudeau. Trudeau Government, Trudeau Carbon Tax, Trudeau caused all the problems etc.

Hell a whole industry have formed for Anti Trudeau.

And i wouldn’t be surprised if he’s already courted a slew of new candidates.

I think both sides are, Rick hillier for example has dived in head on into politics the last couple months, wouldn't be surprised to see him as a CPC candidate next election.

Actually that’s a really valid point, and it’s even something we’ve bitched about here- neutering of cabinet and co solidation of power in the PMO.

Corollary- the CPC have been effectively a one man show under PP. It’s pretty much been PP vs PMJT, so there’s a real political vacuum now that half that equation is on the way out.

I knew cutting the Trudeau anchor would shed a fair bit of drag. I didn’t imagine it would be this much, or challenge CPC majority territory.

Hold up, was that Léger poll a dead heat by popular support and not seat count? Because popular support tends to favour LPC on account of more efficient distribution and CPC overweight in the prairies. That can’t be right?

seat count? I got you, someone already ran that data

That consolidation was perfected if not begun by Trudeau the 1st. It is interesting that no government since, of any colour, has chosen to reverse that policy. I wonder why that is.

I’m hugely skeptical at that much of a swing back. That’s majority territory. That’s bananas.
Carney is polling well in Quebec for some reason, and liberal fortunes are neck and neck in the GTA with the CPC, so it could swing either way
