Interesting that Carney appears to do better with potential Tory and NDP voters…Latest from Angus Reid & Co.
Leadership race renews interest in Liberals - particularly under Carney - but CPC still leads comfortably -
CPC support remains at pre-Trudeau-resignation levels, more than two-in-five still prefer that party January 27, 2025 – The Liberal leadership race is still in its early days, but it is renewing interest in the party among voters, especially with the prospect of Mark Carney as leader. - `"Carney has regional strengths compared to Freeland. He holds an advantage in proportion of vote generated for the Liberals in British Columbia (+8) and Ontario (+7). Neither is competitive in the Prairies, and each garner close to equal vote totals in Quebec and Atlantic Canada.
- Looking at six age and gender combinations, Carney generates higher vote levels for the Liberals among five. Only among women ages 35 to 54 does Freeland bring the Liberals more votes (+7).
- Notably, the Conservative Party leads in every region other than Quebec and Atlantic Canada by double-digits, regardless of which Liberal leader respondents are assessing."
Probably attracting red Tories and blue grits back in his direction.Interesting that Carney appears to do better with potential Tory and NDP voters…
Some might even see (if they squint past the staff & cabinet support from JT folks) a bit of Paul Martin in him?Probably attracting red Tories and blue grits back in his direction.
True, but the Trudeau Cootie Dial's not completely on zero with him, either. Nothing as bad as the pong on Freeland, though. And he’s not Trudeau
That makes sense. I don’t view him that way but I understand the appeal, especially if you don’t pay attention to the minutiae of partisan politics. “Hey, about time the Liberals had a ‘money guy’ running the show!”Probably attracting red Tories and blue grits back in his direction.
And he’s not Trudeau
Paul Martin Jr. was never anti-oil&gas. Carney is, hard. Some might even see (if they squint past the staff & cabinet support from JT folks) a bit of Paul Martin in him?
A person is judged by the company they keep. And I am not impressed by either "candidate".Some might even see (if they squint past the staff & cabinet support from JT folks) a bit of Paul Martin in him?

VERY big difference - good point. Hence the squint.Paul Martin Jr. was never anti-oil&gas. Carney is, hard.
Long time ago, I talked to a political staffer I knew through work, but who didn't affect my work. She told me for some reason, the NDP were sometimes more willing to work backstage with Conservatives than with the NDP, the the Liberals were more willing to work behind the scenes with Conservatives than NDP. If that still holds true, could be Carney looks different enough from the "evil leftist twin" to some?... Not so much the NDP voters though. They seem much more open to him than to Freeland for some reason.
They may not be actual NDP voters though just disgruntled liberals who couldn’t stomach voting CPC. Now shifting their support? That makes sense. I don’t view him that way but I understand the appeal, especially if you don’t pay attention to the minutiae of partisan politics. “Hey, about time the Liberals had a ‘money guy’ running the show!”

“Carney? Ok. Freeland? OMG, I’m voting NDP!”They may not be actual NDP voters though just disgruntled liberals who couldn’t stomach voting CPC. Now shifting their support?
Could also be a matter of who they see as more attached/linked to the previous leader.“Carney? Ok. Freeland? OMG, I’m voting NDP!”
So long as Telford, Butts and Klow keep their heads low, few voting Liberals will know Carney has any linkage whatsoever to Trudeau.Could also be a matter of who they see as more attached/linked to the previous leader.
I am really looking forward to clearing out those folks from the PMO, but expect PP to just replace them with his own inner circle to do the same kind of shenanigans. So long as Telford, Butts and Klow keep their heads low, few voting Liberals will know Carney has any linkage whatsoever to Trudeau.
I have changed my mind and now favour strong parties with institutional power to say “no” to leadership candidates that don’t suit the party. Too many times in the recent past have there been examples of weak parties or even local riding associations being taken over by special interests or personality cults. Parties need the institutional power to say “We don’t care how many new members you registered, you’re incompatible with the long term interests of the party.”Well, a lot of folks have been saying that parties should be able to knock people out of nominations for "reasons we can't say", and here we are ....

So Mark Carney tried tried to deny any ties with the WEF when confronted by Alexa Lavoie of Rebel news. Not a good move, there is lots of videos of him speaking at the WEF.
If I were a Liberal I would prefer Freeland or most prefered would be new entry Ruby "Deport illegals" Dhalla
TFTFYYou can be a Liberal and think you have a say brother! Join the party, we're all doing it!
