Nimoy to reprise Spock role on new 'Star Trek' film
Updated Fri. Jul. 27 2007 10:20 AM ET
Associated Press
Leonard Nimoy isn't through with Spock yet. The 76-year-old actor will don his famous pointy ears again to play the role in an upcoming "Star Trek" film due out Christmas 2008.
"This is really going to be a great movie. And I don't say things like that lightly," Nimoy told a gathering of 6,500 fans Thursday at Comic-Con, the nation's largest pop-culture convention.
He greeted the crowd with a Vulcan salute.
Nimoy was joined by the newly named young Spock, "Heroes" star Zachary Quinto, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Nimoy.
Both Spocks were introduced by the film's director and co-producer, J.J. Abrams.
"This is a series I loved as a kid," Abrams said, acknowledging that he was "more of a 'Star Wars' kid than a 'Star Trek' kid."
"This matters so much to so many people," he said. "I'm honored to be here and do this."
While the character of Captain Kirk has yet to be cast, Abrams said that William Shatner, who played the role in the original TV series, would likely also have a part in the film.
"It has to be worthy, of him and of you," Abrams told fans, adding that production is slated to begin in November.
One fan asked Nimoy what he thought of his "replacement."
"It was logical," the actor said dryly. He then closed with Spock's classic line: "Live long and prosper."

Personal comment: I was kind of hoping they would make a DS9 movie and get away from TNG and TOS...or even start something new.

I too was hoping for something new.  How are are they going to make the ships, costumes, and sets not look cheesy?  The orginal ST was total 60's cheese to today's eyes.  The STNG design is starting to look dated too.  They will love the shiny primary colour uniforms.

But I hope remember the female outfits of the sixties.  Some of them are still hot.

...gives new meaning to the response..."peace and long life"

and..yes please..bring back the old 60's women's ST OS fashions... ;D    ;D

I was really really really hoping for a Voyager movie. What ever happened to them after they returned? I WANNA KNOW!!!  :-[

There already was a Voyager movie - Star Trek, the Motion Picture.

:crybaby: EEEKK!!!  Am I really that much of a geek?

Yes dapaterson :p you are a geek. muahahahahahaha. No No I meant Voyager the stand alone series? or are you just yanking ma chain?  ::)

Sigh... here comes my unveiling as a geek:  the "villain" of Star Trek - The Motion Picture turned out to be V'Ger - one of the Voyager space probes sent out by NASA in the 1970s, who had become self aware somehow.  Thus, a Star Trek movie about Voyager...

Yes yes, I'm sure all of us nerds have seen it :D many many a times.  :D The movie I mean, not dapaterson getting ushered by Crantor for his lunch money  ;D

At this point I will not admit we own over 500 Star Trek books of all series, the whole original series on DVD, various models ect....

They put out a 2 part book on the homecoming.

I have the complete TNG on VHS.  I am cool.

I have the books after the home coming, including the new series USS TITAN.

It's the federations first multi-species built ship (some areas are water, some areas are sub-zero g's) The Capt is William Riker, their diplomatic officer and senior councilour is his wife Deanna Troi (highly suspect in Starfleet standards). Three books have been published with a fourth due this month.
