Here is one i don't see on here,has anyone here ever been pensioned or awarded for service related illness acronym GBS?It is very rare 1-2 cases in 100,000 so i don't expect a huge response.The causations can been seen in the merck manual or any major medical publication on GBS.I would appreciate any form of experience with it and i can tell you that 12 people have been pensioned for it by VAC.Mine was caused by mycoplasma pneumonia which I contracted in a training exercise.

The background is the four most common causes are found in a military barracks setting,i.e. huge amount of people and food/bathrooms etc...

Just curious as to where you found this info.

The Mayo Clinic states:

Guillain-Barre syndrome may be triggered by:

    Most commonly, infection with campylobacter, a type of bacteria often found in undercooked poultry
    Influenza virus
    Cytomegalovirus
    Epstein-Barr virus
    Zika virus
    Hepatitis A, B, C and E
    HIV, the virus that causes AIDS
    Mycoplasma pneumonia
    Surgery
    Hodgkin's lymphoma
    Rarely, influenza vaccinations or childhood vaccinations


Guillain-Barre syndrome

The NHS list is similar.

**After the edit, I see that iltis1994 cited the causes for mycoplasma pneumonia, not GBS.  Some literature shows that GBS often develops a few days or weeks after an infection of the digestive or respiratory tract.  Depending on when the pneumonia occurred, it might be difficult to prove that a newly diagnosed case of GBS was a result of that illness.  Just my  :2c:
