Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

“ Perhaps some drone detection system may be in order although I doubt we'll ever see it.”

Pretty sure that NIDAR C2 and CUAS are on the near horizon for AOPS and JSS, and a full short range, autonomous kinetic installation is right behind that.

If that's the case great, we'll see when it comes.

Obviously, HDW's gun.

I thought that only the ships in "WWII" livery could have gun art?

If that's not the case and they all can, that's OK with me, I am quite in favour. It's not like you'd be able to see the ship from further away. ;)
I guess no one told the crew. Look like gun art for everyone!

For Annapolis, the ship's crest on the radar cover protector and gun muzzles caps in harbour was OK, pretty much everybody had those. That's not considered gun art, and it was only in harbour.

The Algonquin one - I don't recall ever seeing one, but am obviously wrong: What's the connection with Asterix's characters (Obelix and Idefix)? And what's the time period? (I retired in 2001).

According to what I read online it is indeed considered gun shield art. CTB044485.jpg I believe Terra Nova has art on its 3"70 as well.

Except that's not TERRA NOVA, that's FRASER. (Look at the crest, and it's in CANDESRON 5 - Barber Pole squadron).

But what I find interesting for those of you who have not known the St Laurent and derivatives: We had open air bridges. Look at all those people on the bridge out in the fresh North Atlantic air. :)

I know that, been looking for the Terra Nova photo stop being difficult because you were wrong. :p

The issue is that we have these systems already purchased, in operation and one of the reasons why we purchased them is that as you probably know is that we have both the 25mm ammo and bushmaster already in CAF inventory which is common. Perhaps they may decide to rip them all off and go with the 30mm which really you're not gaining all that much and I'm sure the RCN can handle multiple gun systems at a time. My experience in CAF tells me that's not going to happen when we have a perfectly good weapon system already onboard and commonality already. Didn't you at some point advocate for the 57mm to be repurposed from the Halifax Class, what happened?
Make me Emperor and I will get you the 57mm, along with other goodies. However I am scaling my desire to realm of what is likely and possible given the forthcoming budgets.

Reminds me of touring HMCS Haida as a kid…great view of Ontario Place and Toronto Harbour well before the move to Steeltown.

I remember those from training on the old YAGs; they sucked.

My favourite feature of CSC is no bridge wing doors, because they have tonnes of windows and cameras, and keeping the citadel intact is a thing in the RN.
