Taking a mature stance that called for national unity and lowered emotions likely would have been the best play both politically and ethically for Trump following the assassination attempt. I am however unsurprised that the man with the emotional maturity and impulse control of a toddler wasn't able to take this path, along with some of the usual suspects in the GOP.

Political violence of any form is abhorrent and we're all fortunate that the assassination attempt was unsuccessful. But Trump's actions and consistent inflammatory lies since he came down the escalator at Trump Tower and announced his candidacy have had a significant role in the polarization that the US is in today. While I hope that nobody else makes a move towards violence I find it difficult to some extent to not view this situation as, "man who added fuel to fire for the past 9 years finally gets burned."

Believing the garbage in those kinds of articles is what causes polarization. A "Call to Arms"?, nope.

Immigration and electoral integrity are legitimate issues. I'm guessing a few hundred million people agree with that, regardless of their position on the issues.

As the former chair of the RNC he held a lot of power in that party. It's also worth noting Priebus served the shortest tenure of any non-interim chief of staff in American history... Trump likely gave him the "I'm firing you, unless you resign now" option.

That's tough when the majority of media are against you and outright lie about you. Surprising some folks haven't noticed that yet. There is a long list of media hoaxes related to Trump.

I believe it's on the public record, after Trump won his first term, the guy in charge of Foxnews (murdoch? - I don't recall) stated they were going to shut him out and make him a "non-person". At the time Fox was the largest platform for people leaning right.

Another data point supporting 45 being "middle": he was a lifelong registered Democrat before running for the Republican primary. He was never far left, and he certainly isn't far right. He's in the middle.
