"UnitedHealthcare CEO is fatally shot in a ‘targeted attack’ outside a New York hotel"

I'm not an "eat the rich" kind of guy, but even I find myself having little sympathy for the ultra rich who make their wealth off the suffering of others.

Health insurance needs to exist, but there is likely a way to run it that isn't purely profit driven.

Yes, yes there is.... ;)

Does it need to exist though? Some countries have single payer systems. Turning health funding into a system for profiteers is a choice.
Most countries have a public/private model, which is likely the best way to do things, but point taken.

The reality in America is that private health insurance is likely to persist for a long time, but it can be less terrible than it is currently.

When you commodify the basic necessities of life, you're liable to find a small sector of society willing to turn a buck at the suffering of their fellow man. You'll find a corresponding majority of folks who have no sympathy when said sector get their comeuppance.

I would argue that we see this playing out the same way in Canada with housing/grocery prices, albeit less violently. Read the comments on any "I'm a landlord, my tenants can't pay rent. I can't afford my second mortgage..." or "Galen Weston pleads he's just a normal guy making a living" article and see how unsympathetic the masses are.

The illusionary homogeny of classes has been sharply ripped apart in the last decade or so. Its not surprising that the 1% have a crosshair on their backs. Its also not surprising this is the reaction from the 99% who were at the expense to generate that profit:

You note that the Dems despite their hate on for gun ownership, have to my knowledge never limited private security to non-lethal means only.
That’s not exactly true.

Plenty of Dems own guns. My uncle would make Bernie Sanders seem right-wing, and he has a freaking arsenal in Southern California. His AR was the first time I saw an M-16.

He also speaks fondly of his time just post-Vietnam in ROTC in university in TX, so the idea that left-wing Dems disdain military service is also not totally correct.

However 75% of Federal firearm restrictions down here have been enacted under Democrat Presidents.
National Forearms Act 1935 - FDR
Gun Control Act 1968 - LBJ
Assault Weapon Bill 1994 - Bill Clinton.

The only exception was the Bush Sr. 89 Semi-Auto Import Ban, and it lost him the gun vote, who don’t really turn out in the 1992 Election to Bill Clinton (and look where that got us…).

Both can be true.

I was referring to Dems in the context as the Democrat Party, not individual Democrat voters who will be all over the spectrum.

I saw a report that the killer used one of these, which explains the manual cycling.

Does it need to exist though? Some countries have single payer systems. Turning health funding into a partial system for profiteers is a choice for Canada.

Poser.

He could have used a .357 magnum and not left a bunch of brass/ evidence behind...

... not that I know anything about that ;)

I'm pulling together the relevant links now. I'll post them shortly, or once home.

But apparently she recently purchased $250k of stock in a company that is poised to benefit financially somehow. (Could very well be absolute nonsense)

If I had to choose either a peeved off customer or a hired pro on this one, to me he looks like a hired pro. Everything about this screams hired hut to me. Even his extract was well done

So are you sitting on a smoking gun right now, or?...

Allowing people to profit from offering a service is the key to motivating people to provide a service. One of the great happenstances of human behaviour is that selfishness can be harnessed for useful outcomes. There is no reason health insurance is different in this regard from providing food or housing.

Insurance is a financial product, for those who may have forgotten.

Given how “great” the housing market is in Canada right now, I’m not sure that’s the analogy I’d go with.

I've noticed a shift in my lefty friends here in Canada, a noticeable amount went out got licenses and firearms.
