U.S. Annexing Canada (split fm Liberal Minority thread)

Canada: we're just Northern Puerto Rico ;)

Puerto Ricans pissed Canada could become U.S. state before them

In the wake of Donald Trump unveiling plans to make Canada the 51st U.S. state, Puerto Ricans who have been trying to attain proper electoral representation expressed their frustration with Canada jumping the line and receiving statehood before them.

At present the only thing Trumps antics have resulted in is us taking a serious look at improving border security.

We should be thanking him for kicking our government in the ass.

Let's just hope he doesn't try to rename the Canadian Shield ;)

Trump claims he'll rename the Gulf of Mexico to 'Gulf of America'

"We do most of the work there and it's ours," the U.S. president-elect said.

Again, from what. Only one country has ever threatened to annex Canada.

A trading partner about to impose tariffs regardless of what we do to appease them. That’s a threat.

What an incredibly fucked view. No mention of the ongoing and serious China, Russia, Iranian threats to our NATSEC... but big bad USA threatening serious sanctions on Canada for shirking our duties in this alliance? If your position is the prevailing Ottawa position, we are in for a rough ride indeed. :ROFLMAO:

But even PP’s said he’s against the 51st state idea. And he’s likely (barring truly goofy shit) to be the next PM. Maybe you can change his mind? ;)

Sure. Glad that is happening. If we still get tariffs despite the effort we’ll see how everyone feels.

By all accounts it won’t matter what we do.

You can chew gum and walk too right?

You don’t think that tariffs aren’t a real threat do you…

The president is threatening annexation, that's a pretty big fucking deal. He's opening the door for it and gaslighting his people and ours into thinking we want that. Talk about throwing the Overton window wide open.

100% you don’t threaten to annex your allies. It should be met with near universal condemnation by all of Nato and the West. That is tinpot dictator talk, not the talk of a man who is supposed to be the leader of the free world.

The only good part in all this is the Canadian public is starting to see a reason to invest in the military. Unfortunately it would take a decade to get it anywhere if we started being serious about it today.

YUp. Sad as hell. I have been banging the warning drums myself for all my civy friends and family members HOW important it is to have a capable and properly funded armed forces. Your taken much more seriously internationally when you have a bad-ass effective armed forces in your back pocket. This has been a whole of Canada failure going on since the late 60s. Now, we could pay a very dear price for it.

Damn straight they are. My family may lose our farm and end up in cardboard boxes. Now along with not taking our military seriously, we have had a bozo who has trampled the private sector for the last decade, especially the natural resources sectors in our society (They have been a backbone to our economy for decades), chasing a "carbon-zero magic dragon" (which is biologically IMPOSSIBLE). Hell for us in agriculture, we have been getting screwed over for decades, but it has gotten really bad in the last ten years. And more subsidies is NOT the answer. More people in federal government employment is NOT the answer. More useless funded studies of social BS is NOT the answer. More government taxations and fees is NOT the answer.

Canada has been complacent for decades and it got worse with the toddler government of the last nine years, now we will pay for it badly.

It’s a real threat. But an of magnitude less then the present threats from our real adversaries.

We’ve reached the point where nice words and pretty please have proven to be ineffective.

You just posted above that it’s silly to think they are a threat. now they are? Pick a lane

You clearly have no idea of the impact that these tariffs will have.

any amount of serious wide ranging tariffs as being proposed by the Donald would plunge this country into a recession the likes of which few would have seen. Does he have the support for that? Does he have the support for us to be the 51st state?

I have picked a lane. Economic sanctions to Canada unless and until till we get our security in order are far less threat then allowing our adversaries to penetrate our government while we are being negligent on funding a capable military and appropriately managing our borders. What’s your lane?
