Trudeau Popularity - or not (various polling, etc.)

Anand is intelligent. Which explains why she will sit out this election.
If PP panders to the SOCONs in a way that eats at my legacy-PC/Blue Grit genes, I would look forward to seeing Anand run in the future to pull the LPC back over the NDP towards a closer to center position.

So, Anita Anand has stated that not only is she not running for the leadership of the Liberal Party, but will not be seeking re-election when ever that happens. And it appears that Melanie Joly will not run for the top spot either,.
I wonder how many of these resignations have to do with the looming CPC victory and the possibility of Poilievre peeling back the layers of that Liberal slush fund and 180+ ethic violations that the Liberals are trying so hard to hide.

I think Jean Chrétien would agree with you on that.

Mark Carney is the Team Trudeau candidate. His campaign is being run by Butts, Telford, et al. - the ones who had to resign due to scandal, or who have been implicated in multiple scandals. The ones who reduced the Liberal Party to 16 per cent.
Carney = Trudeau.

Former top advisor Gerald Butts is part of Carney’s campaign team while others close to Trudeau, including Trudeau’s chief of staff Katie Telford, are making calls on Carney’s behalf.

Carney = more of the same…elected front man run by the unelected back room team. #TeamRedStatusQuo

Oh, what a surprise...

Ahead of Trump presidency, U.S. banks abandon Mark Carney climate initiative

Canadian banks non-committal on remaining

Though none of the departing banks offered a reason for leaving, climate finance experts pointed to the elephant in the room.

"All the U.S. banks are running scared of Trump 2.0," says Paddy McCully, a California-based environmentalist and senior analyst at the French non-profit Reclaim Finance. "Their fear over being attacked by Trump is much greater than their climate commitment, so they all ditched the NZBA."

Recent years have seen a backlash against ESG investing — which follows environmental, social and governance principles — with U.S president-elect Donald Trump actively campaigning against it.

There has also been a lawsuit and probes led by Republican lawmakers against giant investment firms like BlackRock. They allege these climate initiatives are anti-competitive, by pressuring the coal companies in the firms' portfolios to reduce their output in order to meet climate goals. That legal action was enough for BlackRock to announce its departure from another GFANZ offshoot, the Net Zero Asset Managers Initiative.

Butts & Telford batting for you? The political kiss of death right there (one hopes)!
Enough so, that *Carney’s team is denying B&T’s “help”…

Three independent Liberal sources tell the Sun that Telford has been seeking support for Carney with key supporters and that much of the PMO staff is behind Carney as well. That’s something the Carney campaign is disputing.

Neither the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff nor other officials of the Office of the Prime Minister are involved with Mark’s team,” a source at Carney’s campaign said.

Tin Foil Hat on:

No one seems to want to take on the LPC leadership, except one fairly new immigrant MP who had an argument with another Liberal Indo MP (shades of politics in India)

Clark may be a unfortunate loss to the leadership run as a result of her shidt happens moment.

Carney, the CPC fav may or may not run. He would have to disclose all his assets, businesses, etc. Does he want to do that? As noted above, even being the PM for a very short time, look at the info he gets. Then gets richer. Note: he holds three passports incl Cdn. MP's should be forced to only have Cdn passports while in office.

Freeland, popular with Liberal MP's, no one else.

Thus, no ideal candidate for the LPC.

Trudeau, there is nobody in the world as great as me, thus I withdraw my resignation.

The LPC ceases to exist after the election.
What if Carney and Freeland both don’t run?

One problem I see, is that Carney reminds me somewhat of Iggy. He has that tone in his voice. The look down your nose at the peons way of talking. I think people have had enough of liberal arrogance.

Freeland has the same problem, except her voice turns people off for different reasons.

Even though it's a short race. I'll bet by the election in March, people will be sick of hearing from both of them.

And then the winner has to go on the road almost immediately for a national election, warts and all.

It'll be interesting to see how they try to ditch the trudeau legacy and convince Canadians they have changed as a party.

All without matter though. The Conservatives are bound to win a majority, no matter who is steering the liberal ship.

If Butts and Telford continue to be involved, then the Conservatives have another club to wield. My sense is that people are fed up with JT, as much as the Liberals collectively. Anything that links a new Liberal administration to JT will be seen by the public as more of the same, regardless of who is at the helm.

Mais ils ne parlent pas le francais...

Speak French, understand Quebec or don’t run for party leadership, some Liberals say

Liberal MP Chandra Arya isn't worried about learning French anytime soon

With several potential candidates still considering launching a leadership bid, bilingualism has emerged as one of the main criteria for entering the race. The last time an English-speaking leader outside Quebec won a majority for the Liberals was William Lyon Mackenzie King in 1945.

In the upcoming leadership race, the likely candidacy of former British Columbia premier Christy Clark has raised many Liberal eyebrows. As first reported by National Post on Thursday, Clark has assembled an organization in preparation to announce she is running as a candidate in the federal Liberal leadership race, once the rules are finalized. Before making a final decision, she was waiting to see the requirements.

Clark is not fluent in French and many sources have questioned her ability to interact with francophones on the campaign trail.

You would like to think that real Liberals, especially from Ontario, would by now have learned that Telford and Butts should be retired. Both to NYC where Canadians Liberals all think they belong. Wasn't Telford in NYC the weekend Freeland launched Her Putsch?

These two already Pooched the Ontario Liberals to electoral desolation and are about to do the same to the Feds. Like Harper said the voters are always right so they should just lay down and take the beating they are about to get.
