Trudeau Popularity - or not (various polling, etc.)

You’d be surprised.

Lots of people might vote liberal if Trudeau is gone. I certainly can’t see myself voting for him. But that could change with different leadership and direction.
whilst I can see the likelihood of a leadership change, I find it difficult to imagine them changing directions politically. There are too many with whacko beliefs. You won't get the environment minister to reverse course even a little bit, for example

I think much of the Liberals’ current unpopularity is solely based on Trudeau’s unpopularity. If he leaves, I expect to see a lot of the Liberals’ support to come back, no matter who they pick for leader.

There is still a lot of mythology that they are “centrist” by the majority of voters who don’t pay attention to politics.
hasn't happened in Ontario yet

That we've heard out loud so far.

Oh, I meant "more of" for sure. Mind you, with Trump at the helm in the south, and PP at the helm here, there'll be past management on both sides to blame, but just warning to be careful what one wishes for.

Maybe over time, but it would depend how much time would be available. I can't find it at my fingertips, but I've seen polling showing party fortunes continuing to stay low even if PMJT scoots.

As for current polling, this almost literally hot off the presses ...

Looks like GenX and GenZ agree that Jagmeet is a better option than Le Dauphin…

With the exchange rate currently like it is?
What? Is the Yuan down?

I'm hearing JT has fled, err, I mean gone on vacation in Hawaii...
I think the guy is a dickhead, and should quit the PM role, but this nickle and diming of the PM and GG is silly and petty. The fact that no one wants to spend money on the official residence so it's now a condemned hole is pretty embarrassing.

With a job like that, they should get regular vacations, and it will cost the taxpayer for security etc, but that's just part of the gig. I personally don't want the leader of our country to burn out, and this is pretty weird crab barreling. I can't stand PP, but would have no issue with him doing the same as PM and taking vacations somewhere warm in the winter, because lets face it the cold can suck.

Hopefully he comes back refreshed and pulls the plug on his lame duck leadership, but why begrudge anyone a vacation?

It's OK, they know about him there too it seems thanks to Hawaii Public Radio ;)

Canada's finance minister resigns. Prime Minister Trudeau has a political crisis

STEVE INSKEEP, HOST:

What is going on with democracies? Never mind the United States - Germany's government collapsed. France's government is paralyzed. And now Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau faces a crisis. His longtime ally, who served as both his finance minister and deputy prime minister, left his government. Chrystia Freeland resigned with a public letter criticizing her boss. Catherine Cullen is covering this. She hosts CBC Radio's political program "The House." And she joins us now from Ottawa. Hi, Catherine.

CATHERINE CULLEN: Good morning, Steve.

INSKEEP: Why is it such a big deal, this resignation?

CULLEN: Oh, I mean, it was an absolute political earthquake. As you say, Chrystia Freeland, the deputy prime minister, the finance minister, she was the original Justin Trudeau liberal before he was prime minister. He recruited her. He brought her on as a star candidate. And what she did yesterday, it wasn't just a resignation letter, a public resignation letter. The day that she delivered that letter, I was with a group of other reporters. We were headed into the fall economic statement, sort of a mini-budget. She was supposed to deliver this big address on the state of the nation's finances, new information about more than a billion dollars being invested in the border to try to deal with the threat of Trump's tariffs, billions more for investment credits for business. This was, in many ways, her day.

This is what happens when an ideology weakens and divides a country to the point it has no one to turn to for leadership and barely nothing to defend itself. A bully comes in and tries to rob your house.

I think your bias is showing.

But, time will tell.

Have a great holidays.

I get what you're saying but.... timing. Timing. Timing.

Leadership comes with responsibility. Sometimes that responsibility means cancelling plans to deal with things.
