Some questions about exercises:

How often do Canadian reg force infantry units participate in exercises in other countries? Safe assumption that most held outside of Canada would be in the US?

How often do Canadian units get to train with units visiting Canada? I‘ve heard that the British train in Canada on a fairly regular basis. Is this true?

Any info and anecdotes would be great. Thanks.

Joe

IIRC, the Brits keep a contingent in Wainwright. True?

The British Army maintains a training establishment called BATUS at CFB Suffield near Medicine Hat Alberta. They primarily do brigade level and larger combined arms / armoured exercises there :cdn:

So basically they have more firepower in canada then our own army? :)

Suffield? Wainwright? I thought that all the Limey and German :tank: training was done in Shilo. Maybe im wrong

The Brit‘s have always been at Suffield. The German Army trained at CFB Shilo. But they pulled out about two years ago. They are no longer training in Canada.

There was some talk about moving 2PPCLI to Shilo, but nothing has come of it...yet.

The Brit‘s have more armoured vehicles in Canada than we do. :tank:

Interesting fact: :warstory: Until 5 or so years ago, the Brit‘s were still using Ferrets as range safety vehicles. they then switched to Landrover Defenders. They just announced a couple of months ago that the Landrovers weren‘t standing up to the harsh use in Canada. So they are replacing them with Chev/GM 2500 pickups as Range Safety Vehicles.
