Russia in the 21st Century [Superthread]

I feel like our ancestors, in the both east and the west, would have revolted already.
Depends.

Mussolini enjoyed 20ish years of power before meeting his bat-like fate. Ceaucescu as well. Putin is hitting the same expiry date soon.

The problem is these megalomaniacs maintain a cult of personality that can be extremely persuasive; but also crushes dissent very quickly. That all goes out the window when people's needs are no longer being met and the previous scapegoating is no longer working.

My ancestors were dissenters in a sea of folks happy the trains were running on time, factories were up and running, and Italy was on it's way back reviving the past glories of Rome on the international scale.

My family were branded as Communists, but so were a lot of other people who weren't content with the newfound boot accessory adorning their necks. It wasn't until everything fell apart that the majority rose up to "fix things." Had it not, I cringe to think about that alternate reality.

Putin is very much along a similar timeline, and its only a matter of time before the music stops and he has run out of chairs to sit in.
