Private pay

Why is the pay scale for privates 124.40 a day? That's 622 a week before taxes and 29k a year before taxes. That's terribly low pay. How could anyone survive off of this? I want to join but That's 15.55 per hour. I could get more working at McDonald's

You're looking at reserve pay for days worked, reg force starts at $3492/month for private. You also get better benefits, pension, job security, a cap on what you can be charged for rent at CAF/DND facilities and cheap meals compared to McDonalds.
