This post is not about support staff. It is a vent. The support staff are getting shafted by the union and the teacher side. They are going to wear the price from taxpayers and parents. A shame. They are workers I speak of. Not the face of education like the teachers or their union. I don't care what happens to the teachers. I hope they get fined ($5,000/day) and fired. I don't care about the richest union in the country. They can take their fine ($500,000/day). Ford offered them a good package, but these greedy pricks turned it down and forced the governments hand. They get 11 sick days @ 100% and another 120 at 90%. They work a measly 190 days a year and many of them are on the sunshine list. Lots of other workers, whose children attend these schools do 6 days a week, 50 weeks a year for sometimes a third or half of that. Then give up 43% of it to tax to help pay for these teachers with their much higher wage and short work year. I really, really hope the union creates a tipping point to where parents, students and taxpayers finally revolt against their largesse and social engineering. They are making no friends among parents and taxpayers. Contrary to the bleating and angst being performed by the opposition and the rhetoric of the unions and support from the legacy media. They are not gaining support because parents are tired of their children being hurt and indoctrinated. I feel sorry for the maintenance and support staff who will have to wear this because of a domineering union, teacher greed and agendas.
What I do care about in this discussion is the kids. Something that has been lost in all the rhetoric. They are who should be discussed. Not the nose tweaking the union is trying to give the citizens of this province. I care about the kids being treated as pawns, damaging their social learning and norms. I worry the education system spends more time gender bending than teaching the curriculum of basic math, reading and writing. Our children have already been mentally damaged beyond possible repair. They have the lowest scores in decades and they are being used as pawns by a rich, powerful union that doesn't need the money or even cares about the students. Those are the ones we should be discussing. And the use of them by the union as a fire break to push their socialist agenda and poke Ford in the eye. It will be the kids that are the losers in this.
Legault in Quebec can use the Notwithstanding clause to suppress the English language and destroy religious freedom with it. He uses it to abrogate Charter Rights. I don't hear anybody here standing up against that use use of it, even though that is spectacularly worse than Ford saying "You won't damage the kids any further. You will show up and do your job."
If Ford can use it to counter a socialist kleptocracy, I say strap on those JATO bottles and let's go for a ride. I send my grandson to Montessori to keep him from the bent ideas of the public system. Grade 5 and he reads like a champ, writes cursive, does coding and robotics, and all those other things disappearing from public education.
In the end, the only thing that will come of this is a damaged generation who will be incapable of running our country on their own and support workers being mistaken, and wearing it, for the teachers and the union.
Next Tuesday I will be meeting with the local Conservative MPPs. Curriculum, this strike and 'other' activites going on in our school is the first thing on the agenda.
