Para‘s in combat

The use of Parachutes to rapidly deploy troops was used etensivley by Rhodesia and South Africa during their respective brush wars. You can read about this in "No Mean Soldier" (can‘t remember who it‘s by) it is a good read. As for an Airborne Reg. I think a good option would be to combine all the light infantry battalions into one Regiment wether that would mean adding a Reg. to the order of battle or changing over an existing Reg. (PPCLI maybe) i don‘t know.
The para company‘s would also be combind into a single battalion . So the make up would be two airmobile battalions and one para qualified battalion. After all a battalion size para drop is considered the smallest acceptable. This way the new regiment could be Canada‘s Rapid reaction force with the Para battalion beint the spearhead for the regiment with the airmobile battalions to follow. But of course if we have airmobile regiments than we need proper helicopters No the Griffin‘s don‘t count, and we all know about our gov‘t and heli‘s for the CF.

we desperately need proper military helicopters for the purpose of quick troop movement.

Corey, your suggestion sounds a lot like the Belgian Para-Commando Regt. It is definitely a model we should be looking at, as it is a modern solution to a modern problem. And this is where problems start, as our current Regt‘l system does not allow for this kind of change. :cdn:
