Ontario Majority Government 2022-2026 (?)

That’s not the simplest. Simplest is a plain incense plate fee like Ontario dispensed with. It doesn’t scale for use, but it’s simple. A mileage-based system would be a monster to administer and enforce.
Not sure I understand. My plates have no smell. :) Eliminating plate renewal fees cost the province about $1.1Bn.

Could all be done at yearly insurance time. already here in BC we take odometer readings to determine insurance discounts, toss in use, power type and GVW and that calculates your fee.
It might be different with state-operated insurance. Ontario has moved to automatic renewals ('permanent' for all intends and purposes). Even when we still had to renew (no fee), so long as the odometer reading submitted was larger than the previous one it was accepted. Ontario and I suspect many other provinces would have to develop a robust tracking system to use it as a fee/taxation system.

Is there a gender breakout of those numbers?
Yes indeed... 😉 :ROFLMAO:

Though this is from am Bbacus poll conducted in early November.

Edit: one interesting thing I only noticed after posting is that the people who were old enough to be paying attention to politics when the LPO held power have the lowest opinion of the LPO.

Couldn't find Furniture's breakdown for the latest #s. More details may be embargoed because it's a Toronto Star poll, who has first dibs on the more granular stuff if they paid for it.

Certainly more up to date and topical than that last one somebody posted.
The McGwynnety government deserves the Bob Rae/ NDP treatment.

This, under the radar, from a weekend Ontario Green Party convention - nothing on the party website yet, though.
Backstory: Ignace and Saugeen are interested in this because one of them is being chosen to be the site for a nuclear plant waste depository.
Another piece of evidence re: nuke being better than coal (study also attached).

Still need to sort out where the spent fuel should go, but interesting factoid to throw into the debate.

Does anyone know the status of that, I think New Brunswick, project to scale down reactors? The one Ontario has a stake in?

Quick google-fu shows the NB power folks saying they're not walking away from small-nuke work, even though it appears they're changing plans a bit re: sourcing.

$14Tn in lost healthcare costs. Won't somebody please thing of the CEOs and shareholders!

Dealing with nuke power, guess where Big Nuke has chosen to send (eventually) nuke waste to be buried?
...
Nuke burial process firing alright, nuke burial process - STOPS?
For reference, Eagle Lake FN is the one in red, with the spots in green (another nearby FN) and blue (the town of Ignace) already having given their own green lights to the work.

Not enough of a bribe compensation offered?

I'm a little confused about their position. They are upset they didn't win approval but are against it nonetheless? Not to worry, there are more FNs and communities lining up against it - many further away.

Yup ...
... but still showing cracks in the unified organization facades, too (first article from 2022, second article from this past September)
To give you a sense of what's where, here's the Treaty 3 area map, with the black spot in the middle the approximate area of the proposed nuclear waste dump site, and the FNs mentioned above highlighted in yellow (for scale, a straight line between Thunder Bay and Winnipeg is a hair under 600 km according to Google Maps):

A good reminder to anyone who thinks one can get a single, unified position on most things among any group of FNs - yeah, it can happen, but it only takes a few (or even one) to throw things for a loop.

They were consulted.
That's the thing about dealing with FNs. Big Nuke Burial (BNB) is quoted saying there were "discussions" with the FN, while the FN is claiming they were rejected. BNB's page doesn't even list Eagle Lake as a place they "studied".
Did the "discussion" meet the legal definition of "consultation"? We'll see.

Also, even though the federal Minister of Natural Resources is named, some say the Federal Court can only review decisions of government, not NGO's like BNB.
I read this as a money shakedown from the losing bidders…
NEVER out of the question. Could also be background stuff between the FN going to court and the "winning" or other FNs. FN politics, like most politics, can sometimes be a wilderness of mirrors.
maybe Saugeen would have been better
Municipality of Saugeen was good to go, Saugeen Ojibway Nation still wasn't ready to decide, so early bird, worms and all that. Coming back to SKT's points, though, FN leaders there were underwhelmed with the result as well:
... The chiefs of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation called the NWMO’s decision making process “extremely disappointing.” Chiefs Greg Nadjiwon and Conrad Ritchie go on to say, “NWMO has made many commitments to work with us collaboratively to support our decision making process in a full and respectful way. But it is clear NWMO continues to act unilaterally, making decisions behind closed doors and without regard for our governance process or good faith partnership.” ...
Eagle Lake says "they dumped us unreasonably", while Saugeen Ojibway says "hey, they didn't even let us do our own internal consultation in our own time."

As I mentioned above, in addition to litigation, this sort of thing'll need an environmental assessment process, which could potentially drag in folks from almost all over, given some of the waste would have to travel from as far away as Quebec and New Brunswick to NW Ontario. Would anyone along the route not impressed with the stuff coming through be willing to lawyer up? We'll see ...
