Tried finding this article on the net, but without success, in our local paper on 26 July.

In summary, article refers to Gustave Bieler as a Canadian spy (does not mention he was a Major in the Canadian Army) who worked with French resistance and was captured by Nazis, and eventually given an honor guard and excuted on 06 Sep 1944 after months of torture.  Currently being featured in a museum in Germany  (Flossenburg Concentration Camp Museum).

Even has a page in Wikipedia:

Also a link here on a good summary of Canadian key historical intelligence and special forces actions up to 2004.:

Small error

Canadian Spy Special Operations Executive (SOE) member

Google Roy Mclaren - Canadians Behind Enemy Lines - get the book - read chapter on Bieler - Incredible.

Hey, I'm just repeating what the article said... "Canadian Spy..."
