I suspect that given the current situation with the incoming administration that keeping on the whole Trudeau thing and not actually saying much about the threats from the south will only shift voter intentions more.

True but not mutually exclusive. “We’re the better option because we’ll do x, y & z” can be easily be followed up on with a “they’re only Trudeau 2.0 clones” zinger - especially with a leader who enjoys such zingers.

Sure, but I’m guessing most Canadians (not the ones who are plugged into politics) have tuned out once JT resigned as leader.
I expect to see “Carney / Freeland is Trudeau 2.0” and “Poilievre is Harper 2.0” ads flinging both ways.
But as some folks have mentioned here, the next couple of polls after Trump’s inauguration will be interesting. I was a bit surprised at the poll saying that the CPC was down by 2 points.

Right, there’s certainly a connection.
There will be a lot of noise made by people whose votes are already a lock one way or the other. It remains to be seen how many voters either remain, or following a PMJT resignation become, open to being persuaded. There are absolutely voters who would categorically not vote LPC with JT as leader, but may consider them under someone else.
Policies and the campaign will matter. Carney will have to quickly learn how to politick.

I'd probably consider myself a "Blue Grit" and if it wasn't for his support for Net Zero I'd probably lean toward Carney. I'm also not a fan of PP's populist manner and scripted "tag line" style of politics. That being said, the LPC under Trudeau II have royally screwed the country with their "Sunny Ways" policies and ignorance of economic fundamentals and absolutely MUST be banished to political purgatory for as long as it takes for Trudeau's woke acolytes to be completely and forever purged from the party. That's why the Conservatives will get my vote whomever ends up as leader of the Liberal Party.

Carney, of all of the candidates (incl other parties) has the most economics experience. I see no reason why he would just go completely the other way.

Carney is also a complete n00b when it comes to the inner workings of a political party. He will be relying on the people Trudeau used to manage the party, which means he is just another Justin.
If he tries to wander too far off the acolyte's chosen path he may find himself on the outside of his own inner circle.

Lets all take a breath here. Carney has to win the LPC leadership campaign first. I'm not sure that's going to be as easy as some may think.
No argument. If the opposition had a leader that was a a bit higher in the approval ratings this might not be an issue right now. I suspect that political winds are shifting to what the US does next. However, PP is quite capable at shifting when required so we’ll see if he reforms his message.
Absolutely. I believe it was Mulcair who advised the LPC handlers not to handle him and let Carney be Carney. Will they? Not so sure either.
I suspect that desperation will force them to go with the flow of whatever leader is picked.

Possibly. The last CPC one certainly was. We’ll see how they measure up to that. Carney already started by criticizing Trudeau and I’m sure CF will as well. In an attempt to distance themselves they may cause a lot of internal damage.

Obviously. "Science" simply requires applying scientific method, the core of which is hypothesize-and-test. Economics requires math skills on par with theoretical physics and advanced statistics, and even with that is still more difficult than physics because of the complexity of any system involving multitudes of people.
Sure. One specialty does not a PM make, or even an expert in economics. Being a central banker makes one an expert central banker, and isn't really a particularly useful resume point for a PM, because we don't want a PM to micromanage the central bank - it's one of the few government agencies that has to operate at extreme arm's length from politics. Every really effective politician has to be an effective campaigner and an effective statesman, and in representative democracies the first is generally a prerequisite for the second but does not guarantee the second. Carney's resume isn't more relevant to the position he seeks that pretty much anyone else who has led or run an organization.
Carney might be the best candidate on all aspects which require thinking like a central banker, but isn't necessarily the best candidate for making general decisions about economics - not if his political priors lead him to take up policies which militate economic efficiency.
Tough sell given she was finance minister and minister of everything for a long time.
If I had a conspiracy hat it would tell me this may all just be orchestrated to avoid it looking like a coronation like what happened with Harris in the US.
Anyways, they would do well to just keep it collegial publicly.

They're all just awful.
If there had been enough time for a proper leadership campaign over the summer, you wouldn't see what amounts to the LPC's equivalent of the Clearance bin at Giant Tiger.
I hope this will lead to constitutional changes in the LPC so that the cult of personality crap can be removed. The should have been initiated when they lost the first by-election in June 2024.
