In order to answer that, I need a few more details. Are you asking as to what the courses are?! There are the QL4 series of courses. One being the QL4 Machine Gunner and then the QL4 Recce course. Then of course, there are further specializations in those programs as your career progresses if you wish to take a look at those down the road.

Here‘s a little bit of repetition from RCA:

QLs are the MOC trg crses for NCMs (both Reg and Res_
QL2=Recruit Trg
QL3=your basic MOC trg ie become a gunner, infanteer, tanker etc )
QL4=adv trades trg ie Dvivers, Machine gunners, Motorman, Arty Techs etc.
QL5 are Reg F crse
QL6A=qual you for Sgts ie Section Comd, Detachment Comd, Crew Comd
QL6B qual you for WO ie Plt WO, TSM etc
QL7 qual for MWO

for officers it is either phase trg (Reg and Res) or MITCP (Res only and tend to be short duration summer crses) where you progress from almost recruit trg up through various levels of trg similar to QL crseto qual you for each rank/posn next above you.
**************************************************
That should probably sum up for you the various options open to you throughout your career.

Well, in the Infantry, if you plan on staying more than three years, the machinegun course is an absolute necessity, a "career course". And the Recce course is an excellent course which leads to a myriad of related courses if you‘re interested in that sort of thing. You can‘t really compare the two because they are completley different, however they both have their "COOL" factors. I personally like them both.

Fusilier told me u r 3RCR doug

do u use coyotes in recce there? cause i wanna join RCR

Not at this time. Since we are a light infantry battalion our Recce platoon consists of two Recce sections and one Pathfinder section. And right now there is no Recce platoon so to speak. Recce was absorbed by Para company for the upcoming tour (ROTO 8-TFBH) Some guys are qualified on the Coyote surveillance equipment, but not a lot. Mostly just the armoured units really have been using it extensively, although there are a few at 1RCR and 2RCR.

Well, I would like to join the recce platoon in a RCR battalion, but don‘t want to use Coyotes. I am still deciding on which battalion to join. It is still in two years away though.

Perhaps getting OT here, but ref Patriot‘s remark:

‘QL5 are Reg F crse‘

Isn‘t QL5 the MCpl qual course, i.e. ISCC? Sorry if that term‘s obsolete....

Cheers,

Bloggins.

QL 5 is a pay level. split between 5A and 5B. Generally, 5A is OJT( spec PO/EOs( some trades have a course) 5B is Mcpl rank Qual( dependent on trade, a technical course and leadership trg). In the infantry, ISCC qualified a candidate to5B and 6A pay level ( as it was their leadership and technical trg course). This has been superseded by the CF JLC , followed by the LFC JNCO( again qualifying an infantry man to 5B and 6A. other trades have other courses to complete to achieve 6A) there is a move afoot to go back to separate 5B and 6A courses for the infantry( which is what the Reg F had about 22 years ago!)

Does anybody know what the new terminology for career courses is going to be? I expect it will not be as simple as:

BMQ= CF Recruit Trg
SQ = Basic Army Trg
QL3=your basic MOC trg (ie: become a gunner, infanteer, tanker, etc )
QL4=Special trades trg (ie: Drivers, Machine gunners, Motorman, Arty Techs, etc)
QL5 = Adv MOC Trg
QL6A=qual you for Sgts (ie: Section Comd, Detachment Comd, Crew Comd, etc)
QL6B qual you for WO
QL7 qual for MWO

Correct me if i am wrong, but i believe the CF JLC and LFC JNCO have both been changed and take effect in the new year. The new accronym is something along the lines of PLC.

PLQ (primary leadership qualification). It is a single course, but modularized for home study, weekends, and a short residential (ie. block) portion.
