I found this; i wonder if a "I found this:" thread might be useful for this section - or indeed other sections - to be enlarged upon elsewhere. Here's two sites i've found - the first deals with desert operations - a review of Africa Korps operations - written for the American Forces by a former officer of the Africa Korps: http://www.cgsc.army.mil/carl/resources/csi/Toppe/toppe.asp . I find it interesting that he mentions the use of DDT as a sanitation aid - as i did not know the German forces knew of this: " In respect to insects, there are flies wherever there are people. At first, the troops had no effective means to combat them. It was only during the final phase of the African campaign that the newly developed means (for instance, a preparation called DDT) could be issued". The article makes mention of "dehydrated fuel experiments" : " Experimentation in the production of a dehydrated fuel for vehicles that is also fully effective in saltwater solution. Such a dehydrated fuel greatly alleviates the supply problem and would remove, to a large extent, the danger of air attacks on fuel dumps".
