On 22 April 1915, my regiment, The Calgary Highlanders at that time the 10th Bn and the Canadian Scottish earned their right to wear the oakleaf shoulder title, the only such distinction in the Canadian Forces today. It was the first major Canadian battle of the war, the first Canadian attack against the Germans, and, according to Marshall Foch, "the finest act of the war."

Anyone who is interested should read Daniel Dancocks‘s books "In Flanders Field" and "Gallant Canadians". He was Canada‘s best military writer until his untimely suicide.
