For the record, I F*****g hate the term "Settler". Just another virtue signaling division of people. JFC, my family have been here since 1820 (dad's side) and 1870 (mom's side). I have as much in common with an European as I do with rock in Antarctica.
If one of my kids or my cousin's kids takes on the family farm, they will be the 7th generation in an unbroken family line farming the same land going back to 1850, what will by then be knocking on 200 years.
I'm no historian, so this is a layman's understanding of things.
Prior to 1650- said land was likely under the control of the Neutral, but maybe the Huron
From 1650-1700, said land was under the control of the Haudenosaunee, who took it by force from the Neutral/Huron
Around or slightly after 1700 the Anishinaabe pushed the weakened Haudenosaunee down from the North (also by force)
Who's ancestral land is it?
