I am aware that my grandfather served in WW1 ad WW2 and lived. He died when I was about 5 so I could‘nt talk to him. My grandparents dont like to talk about his history either so I‘m trying to dig up some dirt on it.

If you know of a good site or a few that you can find info on people who have served in Canada, then that would be great.

Even better, if you happen to know anything about Lightfoot who served in the Perth regiment, that would be nice.

You can always use the access to information act and get a copy of your great grandfathers military pers file. I‘m not sure how to do it, I do know a few guys who have done it and recieved what they asked for. I‘ll ask them and try to get back to you.

Cheers

Send me his name and Service Number if you know it and I‘ll try and help you.

Try this site. They have WWI attestation papers online now.

You may wish to try the National Archives of Canada for Soldiers of the First World War.

I‘ve researched my grandfather on my mother’s side and an uncle of my father-in-law on this site. I have also written and received photocopies of their records for a nominal fee. About 50 - 60 percent of the attestation papers are on line. Gives one a bit of a chill, seeing the signatures, which match postcards, letters and family mementos of this period. Good luck

Thanks guys, I went to the National Archives and ordered a copy of all his files for about 2 bucks!

Thanks again,

J. Lightfoot
