I've been in the reseves for about 7 months now and im currently on my SQ phase. My problem is this..when i enrolled my eyesight was -0.75 and -1.00..which worked out fine..however I've found that my eyesight has gotten much worse over these 7 months..i realise that combat arms require a V3 minimum and i believe -1.00 is a v2? please correct me if im wrong..whats a v3? and if my eyesight gets significantly worse..lowering to lets say a v4..will they kick me out of the infantry? Im going on my Dp1 in meaford this july so ill be trade qualified will the matter at all? thank you for your consideration

Start here for Vision Category and Acuity info - http://forums.army.ca/forums/threads/31590.0.html

If your eyesight drops to V4, you will be considered unfit infantry and subject to trade reassignment out of the infantry or release.

You could get laser eye surgery. Not sure if that would mess with your current job as a reserve. Might want to check

The thing about v4 is very strange. I am a lineman and I was apparently a V4 when I was switching over. According to CFRC I was only fit for infantry and the requirement for my trade was V3. I also could have went Sig Op.

My buddy is a Sig op and was apparently a V4 and they told him infantry or Lineman, but then eventualy let him in. All our stories contradict. I got the laser eye surgeory and they still didn't want to let me in the reg force, once I told them to pull my paperwork I was in the reg force 1 month later.

I don't know what to think about the whole process but its sketchy at best......

I wouldn't worry about the prescription numbers. I know they are listed on this forum stating if you are such and such you are  V this or V that. The only real way to determine is through the visual acuity test.

While eyesight may usually worsen with age . . .  7 months isn't age.  But then, you didn't state how you know that your eyesight has "gotten much worse".  Did you see an optometrist (or other medical professional) and he noted that there was a significant change in your refraction or is it simply your perception that you are having more difficulty seeing?  If it is the latter, then perhaps you should see a professional and determine if there really is a problem with your eyes.  In most cases, the medical category for vision does not change radically over a short time frame unless there is a medical problem outside the norm.
