Im not really sure if this is the right place to post this. mods please move to proper if it isnt.

Anyways I was coming back from moss park armoury the other day with my dad, dont really talk to the parents much but he ended bringing up something something I didnt know, my great grandfather was a colonel in the army. Doesnt usually happen because relations with his father aren't good so we dont go there but this surprised me because I didnt know I had any military history in my family. Im not sure wether it was even the first or second world war but im betting the first.

Was wonderin I could tap the vast resources in here and ask if anyone knows websites, libraries w/e that I could look up information on this guy?

much appreciated

Since it is your great-grandfather, he may have served in the First World War.

The Soldiers of the First World War Database (http://www.collectionscanada.ca/02/02010602_e.html) shows only one (1) S.E. Lyons.  Sigmund Elias Lyons, originally of Toronto, attested for the 32nd Battalion in Jul 1916.  This was after the unit was in England and had been reroled as the 32nd Reserve Battalion - so he was enlisting at a Depot unit.  The attestation paper also noted that he was considered "unfit for infantry" at the time.

See Sigmund's attestation paper here:

This may or may not be the man you're seeking, since we have little information to go on with just name and initials.  If it is, you can find instructions here for ordering his srvice records - http://www.collectionscanada.ca/02/0201060101_e.html#consult

Some other possible sources on information may be found at: http://regimentalrogue.com/misc/researching_military_records.htm

And check threads in the Family Research board for other research guidance.
