Good Day,

I've just found out that I will likely be taking the BIOC course at CFFS(Q) this summer.  As all of my training thus far has been in Esquimalt I know nothing about this school/accommodations/parking.  I would like to keep my car there to get home a bit easier, but the joining instructions say that parking in that area of Quebec City is difficult to find and expensive.  Does anyone have any insight on this, or how to go about getting a monthly pass ahead of time?

P.S.  I don't speak French...at all.

Thanks!

I live two hours North of QC. I don't know about parking, but my advice to you is buy yourself a couple French books and get the basics down before the summer. You will be in a world of hurt if you don't know anything in French.

You can rent a parking spot from the NPF kitshop for $85 a month for a lot that's a short (5 min) walk away. There's usually lots of spots available.

Tons of people go through St. Jean and know nothing in French and had no problem (myself included).  Not saying you're wrong about CFFS(Q), as I have never attended.  But I am curious why that would be any different.
English is MUCH more prevalent in the area of St Jean than it is around Quebec City. It may be true that as long as you are in the confines of CFFS(Q) you will be okay but once outside the gates... If you have a few months, recommend you log into ALLIES, set up an account and learn a bit. It will help in the longer run too. There are some old (dead) links for ALLIES and if you can't find the working one, let me know. If I remember tomorrow when I get to work, I will put it on here.
In case you aren't aware, ALLIES is the CFs Rosetta Stone. (It's actually an acronym that I cannot recall off the top of my head).

I speak very little french, and didn't have much trouble in that part of Quebec City when I was there for a course a few years ago.  There was a Vinci Park lot right across from the building.  I can't remember the exact rate I paid, but it wasn't anything crazy.  I think the guy's name was Robert, but no idea if he's still there or not.

As well, here are a couple tools to help out for language training. The first is ALLIES (Autonomous Language Learning in Interaction with Elements in Synergy-Hey, I didn't make it up!). ALLIES Web is the language learning application developed by the Canadian Defence Academy. There is up to a 2 week wait for registration. The other is the Canada School of Public Service on-line language training tool.
