CAN-USA 2025 Tariff Strife (split from various pol threads)

Pretty hard to mount some sort of protest movement when the DNC is at it's lowest level of favorability in 40 years. If this keeps up, Trump might hold the house and senate at midterms.... and get that third term after all.
The Demos deserve to be unpopular. They are controlled largely by the Woke crowd. The same is true with the Liberals here. Actually. too much extremism at both ends of the political spectrum.

I would say that the mere fact that the Liberals chose a Banker (aghast!) as their new leader and that new leader chose not to have (at least currently) Ministerial Portfolios in Women and Gender Equality, Democratic Insitutions and Diversity and Inclusion says alot.

It's pretty funny. I see Liberals posting in total support of this.
"Now isn't the time to worry about gender and inclusion!"

You couldn't find a crisper about turn on the march at a RCR parade square.

I have read and heard a lot from normie Dems and sympathetic Republicans who have tried to get the Dems to do more to appeal to the voters they need to win, but it sounds like the party is hamstrung by “The Groups”, a collection of special interest groups that seem to have a veto over the messaging of the party. This is why the Democrats flailing right now. “The Groups” hold too much sway and won’t allow the party to evolve.

Kind of reminds me of those 'Tea Party' individuals that eventually morphed into the Trump/MAGA cult.

"Cults to the left of me, Cults to the right, here I am stuck in the middle with you".....

Cult or movement? Trump's movement crossed party lines and brought all sorts of people together.

America is losing, and I suspect most other Americans are realizing that we traded one Oligarchy for another that is less transparent and trustworthy than the other.
With the polarization in politics these days, particularly in a de facto 2-party system, I don't see much alternative than bouncing between oligarchs. It similar up here with high-centralized/all-powerful PMOs simply changing sweaters every few years.

I long for the day's of Ministerial responsibility and 'falling on one's sword' if a major (or minor) gaffe occurred within your Ministry. That sense of personal responsibility and 'doing the right thing.'

Hopefully Carney will have a less centralized PMO. More freedom means more responsibility.

I’d like to hope that PP would do the same but I suspect how he’s got an iron grip on his party is just going to translate to his PMO.

The fact that I never see or nor hear from Michael Chong in the press anymore says to me that all roads lead to PP and all roads go through him.

One can dream but we haven't seen much decentralization since Trudeau the First days, or even back to the C. D. Howe days.

Der Fuhrer got all kinds to join with him and I'd classify him as a Cult.
Invoking Godwin's Law?

MAGA is not a cult.

According to the Cult Education Institute, there are specific warning signs to look out for when considering whether a group might be a cult. Cults are characterized by:2

  1. Absolute authoritarianism without accountability
  2. Zero tolerance for criticism or questions
  3. Lack of meaningful financial disclosure regarding budget
  4. Unreasonable fears about the outside world that often involve evil conspiracies and persecutions
  5. A belief that former followers are always wrong for leaving and there is never a legitimate reason for anyone else to leave
  6. Abuse of members
  7. Records, books, articles, or programs documenting the abuses of the leader or group
  8. Followers feeling they are never able to be “good enough”
  9. A belief that the leader is right at all times
  10. A belief that the leader is the exclusive means of knowing “truth” or giving validation

According to The Line article I posted, it sounds like he has an extremely small group he confides in and they all think alike. No Red Team, no devil’s advocate, all groupthink.

He still has the usual suspects running the PMO. My feeling is that he's going to be the front man while the PMO does the ground game. Not being a politician or knowing those inner workings, he'll be dependent on them to keep him pointed in the direction they want to go. As long as Telford and Butts are still involved, there won't be any changes from the way things ran under trudeau.
