British Military Current Events

Of course... it's been at least a couple of weeks without a 'Nazi Costume' type scandal...

Fury as senior soldiers from prestigious British Army regiment wore Nazi uniforms to a barracks party just days before Remembrance Sunday

Two senior soldiers from one of the Army’s most prestigious regiments face investigation after wearing Nazi uniforms to a party days before Remembrance Sunday.

The sergeants from the Queen’s Royal Hussars were frogmarched from the fancy dress event at their barracks after shocked guests complained about their attire.

Remarkably, their Regimental Sergeant Major had approved the SS outfits – and he has been suspended pending an inquiry.

What effing planet do they think they’re on??

I understand the mindset of these people, oddly enough.

The 'British Way' is be so outrageous that your peers are gob smacked which, for example, accounts for alot of the lingerie wearing in certain units.

Extreme bad taste needs to be actively filtered out though which, given the RSM apparently gave the thumbs up in this case, isn't always done properly ;)

I don't know why, but Brits seem to have an ongoing fascination with all things WW2 including the reenacting of both German and American soldiers in addition to their own.

These two are morons and don't have the common sense to be sergeants. As an aside and as part of piling on, the uniforms are slovenly, are inaccurate and the Nazi's never had a BEARDFORGEN.

:(

North Minehead Byelection comes to mind

So basically on par with our Naval Reserves.
And then there is this. For your viewing pleasure open it up into large screen and watch from 1:20 to 2:20. You'll see that the army has nothing to be proud over either. One thing about the Brits, at least they were in the same uniforms.

Sigh. Four years in the Camerons and I always found the pipes and drums as one of the easiest things to march to and get into step with.

Sadly I cannot see videos on DWAN.

I fairness, these poor troops probably had little rehearsal beforehand because drill isn’t considered important anymore, and trying to keep time to bands indoors with poor acoustics is difficult in the best of times.

An absolutely bang on assessment by a UK former RegF colonel, now reservist and Minister of Veterans.

In short - the UK army needs a capability to generate depth and mass through reservists to avoid being wiped out in months.

They've never had an especially effective TA/Reserve, so why start now? ;)

The same as Canada - it's bloody essential that they and we turn things around and create a credible and effective army that's able to function in the long run. That means trained and equipped reservists and mobilization planning for both the army and industry.

The belief in short wars fought by regulars is a myth. Afghanistan was Canada's longest war. Ukraine has shaped up as an endurance contest. Even if there is a cease fire there, it will involve hundreds of thousands remaining in front line positions for years if not decades. Neither Russia nor China will go away nor change their mindsets. And regional disturbers like Iran and N Korea will continue to exist and will strike whenever they see an opportunity.

Effectively we are already in a war and need to work to defend our way of life at many levels including hardening our infrastructure and building a credible deterrence force.

I remember some early 80s Gwynn Dyer documentary on NORTHAG in Germany. He's interviewing some RTR LCol and some of his bods in a Chieftain.

Gwynn: How long do you thing you'll last in an NBCD combat environment?
LCol with plummy accent: We have the best NBCD kit in NATO pip-pip non-answer
Tankie who sounded like he was from deepest darkest Yorkshire: Abhaaht 5 minutes.

Think of the opportunities for promotions, honours and awards! ;)

Anybody's son - and now daughter - will do ;)

And as always this country is ill prepared. The CAF knows that but the "Kids at the Kids Table" don't.

Justin Trudeau GIF

Sat thru one of his talks in the mid 80's back when he was NDP's Defence advisor. At the time he was talking about pulling out of NATO and forming a Militia based Defence force along the lines of the Swiss.
I suspect most of the urban party members when he began talking about basically handing out automatic weapons to every adult in the Country must have had a collective aneurysm.
