When armoured soldiers are opperating their vehicles, do they wear the same kit that a field engineer soldier or infantry soldier would wear? Do they carry the same weapons, rations, sleeping gear? Or, is there little to no room in crew compartments? I've been reading that when an armoured crew goes on a mission they may be gone for a few days or more on their own. Would the crew bring supplies and personal defence equiptment; basicaly survival gear incase they are forced to leave their vehicles? This has been a question of mine for a long time but I have been unable to find any answers.
Also, on a totaly unrelated note, I know that the defence site list some specialist training that armoured crews can obtain; my question is how much specialty training is there to be had and what would some examples be. For example, do armoured crewmen ever get to fix or do maintenance on their vehicles? Or, if originaly trained as a driver, would I ever have the chance to be trained or employed in one of the other positions such as gunner or surveilance epuiptment operator? Do many crewmembers get teh chance to become the crew comander of an armoured vehicle?
Sorry about the amount of questions, but I'm going to be applying in teh summer and am very curious about this trade since it will be my first choice.
Thank you for any information you can give me ;D

We carry the same load of equipment as any other trade....it's a basic load for everyone. Tac Vest, helmet, weapon, NBC gear, ruck, sleeping bag

This equipment is broken down to troop SOPs and are different for every troop....I know this is a bit abbreviated of a list as the real list is very large and detailed.

As a driver you are required to do maintenance on your vehicle...and make sure everything is in order as well.

After a while you will go on other courses such as the Coyote Gunner crse and the Surv Op crse.

After a few years, depending on how compitant you are, you will be promoted to the rank of Master Corporal and placed on a Crew Commander crse.

Then you are given the responsibility of having your own call sign and crew.

Hope that answers your question a little....I'm sure that there will be more Recce troops on here to help out.

Regards

I have seen a draft version of the new crewman recruiting video. It is much more modern, and definitely recce-centric (it has a Dragoon Cpl doing the blurb). It uses words like "sweet", "busting caps" and "tricked out". I definitely feel old watching it.

Was that the darker fella?  He wasn't too convincing when he said he liked the job... hahaha

He was  a bit disgruntled back then....

He still is... if the DP3 is any hint to his appreciation for the job!
