I have never been to Halifax but I'm from Victoria the night life isn't bad but its not a jumbo city with a huge bar street. There is a few clubs downtown and since they built the new arena theres pretty good concerts now. Vancouver is just a 2 hour boat ride away and there is tons of night life...
