Michael A. Dorosh, CD

Military Experience

  • Served continuously with The Calgary Highlanders from Oct 1987 to date; employed as R871 (Piper) for several years, then remustered to Fin Clk, then RMS Clk. Promoted Cpl in 1989; requalified to QL3 RMS in 2000. Currently employed as regimental webmaster (calgaryhighlanders.com) and regimental clothing storesman, as well as admin/stores support to the Regimental Pipes and Drums.
  • Awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration in 1998.
  • Awarded the Alberta Centennial Medal in 2005.
  • Admitted to the Clan of the Gallant Canadians in the rank of Henchman twice.
  • Awarded the Justice J.V.H. Milvain Cup for best Junior NCO in a non-infantry role in the Calgary Highlanders in 2001, 2003, 2004, and 2005. Awarded the Lieutenant Colonel P.F. Hughes Cup for "Most Dedicated Bandsman" in the regiment in 1988.

Publishing

Have published two books on Second World War Canadian Army uniforms;

  • Dressed to Kill (2002)
  • CANUCK: Clothing and Equipping the Canadian Soldier 1939-1945 Vol. I (1996)
  • An Officer and a Gentleman will be released in 2007
  • Published works also include a magazine article on Canadian Army uniforms in the Korean War for Military Modelling and a separate article on the same subject published in Military Trader, as well as various articles for military newsletters.

Support to Motion Pictures

  • Served on the training cadre for the military extras on the film Legends of the Fall; appear on screen in one scene and have one line of dialogue (uncredited).
  • Credited in Partners in Motion's production of Men of Valour for loan of uniforms to the production
