US Presidential Election 2024 - Trump vs Harris - Vote Hard with a Vengence

I'm surprised that, given their location, that they are not investing more heavily in THAAD and CDCM.

It's a minor programming issue that ONLY affects machines designed for people with disabilities. When you start the voting process, you have the option to select "straight-party vote" (selecting all candidates from the same party for all elections), or "split-party". The issue is that if you select straight-party, but the select candidates from different parties, you get an error message, and and then you have to go correct that error. It's an inconvenience.

So a voting machine problem, that could possibly skew the election results, is just an inconvenience. Good to know.

If a VAT user votes straight party and then splits their ticket, they will receive an error message, but will have the chance to fix it and still cast a ballot.
Reading this (from the article), it’s more of an “are you sure you want to do this?” Issue like on Windows.

The bigger issue would be if it allowed you to split ticket after you said you wanted to vote straight party.

Well, it's actually supposed to.

On the non VAT machines, if you select straight-party, and then proceed to change some of the selections to someone from a different party, it then automatically de-selects the "straight-party" tick-box. Kind of like how in many electronic lists (e.g. contact lists, emails, etc), where you can select or check-box each item in the list, there is often a box at the top that says "select all", and when you click that, it auto-selects everything in the list. If you then go and un-check/un-select one of the items, the "select all" box un-checks itself.

I'll retract my previous statement. You shouldve explained it like that the first time.

The Las Vegas Sun has pen see a rather devastating editorial detailing evidence of Trump’s significant recent cognitive decline, and emphasizing the risk of Vance as essentially a Manchurian candidate beholden to other interests, and simply awaiting Trump’s mental incapacitation. The piece points out the increasing risk of a debilitated Trump being vulnerable to manipulation by both domestic and foreign interests as he has an increasingly difficult time keeping it together and functioning through admitted fatigue.

All of the concerns that were brought up about Biden’s unsuitability on grounds of cognitive decline are equally valid for Trump, and evidence of that continues to mount. He’s 78 and in decline. He’s not in mental shape to capably and effectively serve out a four year term, and it’s getting worse.

I still believe he suffered a psychotic break when he lost the last election and it’s just been a train wreck ever since.

Interesting take on Vance, it does explain his various ‘versions’.

What is your reading of the lifespan of Maga after the demise of Trump?

To be fair, I’ve heard that take on Vance since he did the pivot towards MAGA.

I skimmed the line about “Those who believe the country is governed by checks and balances” and read “…governed by cheques”, stopped, and had to re-read.

Then I realized that in US English, “cheques” is also spelled “checks” and thought to myself “that still tracks”.

While I believe Trump is a fascist, he's what I would call an "ignorant person who's personalities and desires align with fascist tendencies and ideologies."

I'm honestly more worried about Vance's. He's overall a smarter and more capable person (though there's a low bar), and while Trump has adopted and usurped a lot of extreme right-wing views for his personal benefit, Vance actually believes in them. He' called Universities "the enemy", he advised Trump to fire "every civil servant" to replace them with "our people", and he said that had he been vice president during the 2020 presidential election, he would not have certified the election results, instead insisting that some states that Trump lost should send pro-Trump electors to Congress. And that's on top of all his natalist, Project 2025-esque views.

I think that depends on if it is President Harris, and if she outreaches across the aisle to govern. There are a lot of angry people that need to feel they are heard.

I think it has long legs, and I think it has less to do with Harris being president as to who "replaces" Trump. Trump is a symptom, not a cause. However, Trump is an extremely poor choice for president because he's a terrible human being. Once he's gone, the torch will simply pass to someone else. If that other person is a more "decent" person, it will really give the democrats real trouble in 2028. However, if somehow the next candidate is a more traditional republican like Haley, and she wins, I think we could finly see a decline in MAGA in the late 2020s. She would "make America great again", but avoid and even push back against all the vetriolic bullshit that characterizes the MAGA movement.

That's just precious. I don't suppose they earlier wrote an editorial opposing Joe Biden on the same grounds (it would have to be well before the defenestration to count)? It would be fun to compare the two, if such were possible.

Trump is undoubtedly declining. He's past 75 - roughly the age at which members of the generation ahead of me have remarked on really starting to notice their own limits. Yet he could be like Ruth Ginsburg - sharp as a tack well into the 80s. Even Joe Biden was vehemently defended by people who routinely saw him as mentally acute and physically robust, apparently only suffering a sharp downturn in the days or perhaps even hours just preceding the presidential debate. Who knew so much could be lost, so fast?

It's completely reasonable to have concerns about Trump's age. At the same time it's completely risible [for Democrats] to use it against him after what the Democrats pulled.

If Trump wins, undoubtedly Democrats will be eager to see him removed under 25A or impeached and convicted, so that Vance can assume the office. If they can get it done quickly enough, the partial term will count as his first.
